To comment on the Thjazi opinions an additional So What: so what if they don’t like him? The Doyalist So What is that Thjazi is fictional and you’re mad at a real person for not liking a fictional character. Ok and? So what?
The Watsonian So What is that Bolaire not liking Thjazi makes a very compelling narrative!!! It’s more interesting that characters who don’t like him are forced to work with characters that loved him. Additionally, Vaelus isn’t the biggest fan of this guy either, seeing as he stole an item of incredible value from her and her order, but neither Vaelus or Ashley are getting the same kind of callout post treatment.
I love having good faith literary debates and discussions, but callout post behavior does not make for a good faith or interesting conversation.
Right? Front to back, completely agree with you.
Like, Sir Julien Davinos spat on his corpse! He hates Thjazi! He thinks Thjazi deserved to die! Vaelus might have been willing to kill Thjazi, she did come in and call him a thief in the middle of his funeral, she was pretty awful right away, and that was cool as hell.
Bolaire doesn't like Thjazi and thinks he might have been a horrible guy. He probably is wrong about that- or, rather, his perspective on Thjazi is (by necessity) limited. He may later change his mind, he may not, who knows?
but that's also interesting, and also... sort of. the point? that's kind of the whole deal, here, is that Thjazi compartmentalized himself so much that no single person of his acquaintance, no matter how close, has anything like a complete picture of him. it's why he's such an interesting character, it's why he's haunting the narrative so much. it's interesting that Bolaire, who hated Thjazi and thought he was a bad man, knows more about him (in some ways) than the brother who loved him dearly. It's interesting, then, when Bolaire defends Thjazi to Hal. That's all interesting.
a lot of the posting about this has been framed as if Taliesin is wrong and bad to feel this way, and that he's playing the game wrong to have his character have this view on Thjazi, and I simply disagree with that, in the strongest terms possible.
Op of the Occtis sightings blog here, just wanted to say thank you for the image IDs! I know you’ve done a few of them and just wanted to give my appreciation :)
Ahh, thank you so much! Always happy to ID, and glad that they have been appreciated <3
