I'm getting into campaign 4 in a big way and kinda feeling like I need a sideblog just to keep from filling my main blog feed with all of my feelings and so on.

spoilers for the current episode will be tagged up through the following Wednesday (with probably some trailing stuff because I tend to use the queue a lot) I use cr spoilers and critical role spoilers for spoiler tagging, because I see both in common usage

I'm tagging all of the previous campaigns with character names and Critical Role Exandria (or if it's, like, Candela that'll have a separate tag- I haven't watched those yet but that's on the list of stuff)

but since there was so much bleedover from campaign 1 and 2 into campaign 3 with character moments etc I think trying to sort out which goes where is beyond my energy levels. (I have memory problems.)

I'm currently using tm9a for the Mighty Nein Animated show and I'm going to see if anybody is talking about how they clean up their blogs for spoilers for this kind of thing.

After thinking about it, I'm going to just make sure not to cross tag. The Mighty Nein Animated show will have its own tag. If you delve into the critical role exandria tag on my blog, or the main campaign 2 tag, there are likely to be spoilers. I am not tagging TM9A with critical role, so you can just blanket blacklist that tag and be more or less safe, but the fandom is so well built up that I'm just not going to turn myself inside out trying to keep the blog sanitized.

I think most of my tags are explanatory, but I'm using #the barista speaks for original posts. (I'm going to try to go back and tag some of my stuff because I thought this tag up a month after creating this blog.)

Also- I will be reblogging mature stuff, on occasion. If this bothers you, make sure your filters are set up, or unfollow/block me.

Sometimes, fanfiction is carefully plotted out stories, with plot points and call backs and themes that all tie it up in a meaningful and exciting way.

And sometimes fanfiction is, ‘Watch me do a fucking KICK FLIP off this cool sentence!! Also here's some sex'

Alex Ward’s exploration of Occtis is so fresh and fascinating. He specifically said (I forget if this is from a cooldown or other ep) that he wanted to explore the concept of undeath without vampirism. Brennan took that conceptual baseball and knocked it out of the park.

No hunger, no drive, just an absence of life. Never fully tired but never fully rested. Wearing and being your own corpse, pain but no urgency, discomfort with no cure.

This is also balanced with who Occtis is a person. He constantly jump-ropes across the line of victim and hyper capable specialist. He’s an anxious kid, but he also molded himself into the shape of very dangerous people and his moral compass isn’t exactly calibrated right (being raised in a family like his will do that). He learned necromancy for the express purpose of being powerful, but doesn’t seem to understand the point of that power other than having it.

Not quite alive, not simply dead. Not a regular noble, but not quite a normal wizard either. In between with absolutely no one who shares his situation in any capacity.

I want to eat this idea and execution with a spoon it’s so good.

What breaks my heart is that Hal seems to make peace with his own death long before anyone else does. After returning from the sewers and speaking with Elodie, he quietly begins preparing for a future where his children will have to live without him. Then comes the play, the speech that turns him into the face of the revolution, and the miracle unfolding before his eyes. For the first time, he sees everything he spent more than thirty years building finally come to life. History is remembered. People are united. Hope returns. In that moment, he thinks, "I could die tomorrow and it would all have been worth it." It doesn't feel like despair. It feels like a man who believes he has already given everything he had to give. That's what makes it so tragic: just as the whole city begins to see a symbol, Halandil Fang has already begun letting go of the man behind it. He fights for the city, for his family, for his beloved ones for an better world where he doesn't exists.

the thought of hal and bolaire developing as characters in opposite directions. bolaire learning what it means to be a person as hal steadily loses himself to being the symbol of a revolution, both ending up with a painful understanding of the feeling of being not real
