God of War Week | Day 6 | The Past & The Future

Welcome to GoW Week! This is a little event to bring the GoW fandom together and give us all a chance to celebrate the things we love about this franchise though different kinds of creations. It’s also the introduction to this blog, godofwarfans, which we’re building as a hub for the GoW community!

Here’s a quick rundown of how this event will work, plus some guidelines:

It’ll take place between Sunday, August 19th and Saturday, August 25th, for a total of seven days

Every day, there will be an assigned theme (see below!) to inspire creations and contributions from the fandom

The themes are only intended as a starting point- feel free to take them in your own direction!

Any kind of creation or contribution is welcome! Art, fic, screencaps, headcanons, edits, meta, or anything else you want to share

You don’t need to participate every day. Feel free to pick and choose in accordance with the themes that inspire you.

If you do want to participate, please reblog this post to spread the word!

Be nice to each other, and most importantly- have fun!

Daily themes:

Sunday: Kratos. Our favourite angry dad.

Monday: Creatures & enemies. Anything to do with the various creatures encountered throughout the games! This can include different gods or other enemies, too.

Tuesday: Memories of Mother. We might not know much about Faye, but we know enough to love her and put her into our creations.

Wednesday: The nine realms. Midgard isn’t the only setting of the new game, and the other eight all have something unique to offer. 

Thursday: Atreus. The best boy of them all.

Friday: The past & the future. There’s a lot of playing with the concept of time in Greek and Norse mythology, and it’s always fun to take a look into the past (or future!) of our favourite characters. This can also extend to previous games in the series!

Saturday: Family. A huge theme in the new game, and something that extends past Kratos and his loved ones.

Well it has been a while and since that day’s prompt is Atreus (A little late as I am very exhausted from work). I just wanna go for a more rambling post rather than all the fanfic pieces I write, on Atreus and the writing process. 

Spoilers to be ensured

I think there are two videos that talked about the writing of Atreus but I want to go it towards a personal perspective. 

  God of War (Or God of War 4 if you want to be canon) seems timely at these crossroads of my life. For the first 3 months I have to deal with a shitty supervisor who is contstanly make me unhappy about my jobI dealt with a lung infection in February which leave me into a sea of allergies and asthmatic. And lately few months back, a long time friend end a friendship with me. Atreus, himself, dealing with his on and off illness made him relatable as I struggled with my slightly developed asthma (which itself is a bitch as I cannot drink cold drinks in the sweltering weather) which I understood his frustration to tell myself not to be sick with his stoic father, which he seen its illness as his weakness. And for him to overcome that weakness (even he is in the little shit phase, which I will talk later), to stay strong. 

The other thing is his kindness and emphatic nature, I too led myself to that nature to care deeply for others without any boundaries, which of course can be determential. And sometimes he needs a guiding hand from his father on these words “Close your heart on it." (Which I kept it as a lock screen on my phone), it is just a short phrase but it really helped me to steer myself, that I must hold with restrain. Perhaps we all do need that grounding and guidance as we figured in life. 

  And yes about the “little shit” phase, which I seen some from Tumblr who are upset and it is understandable. And I am actually appreciative of that character development- as it actually become the mirror of Kratos (I am new to the games but based what I watched that his rage become the clause to the revenge which is baseless). 

As I continuously write fanfics of him, there is something admirable about him and yet there is that beautiful vulnerability in him, which we could bounce back. For me I poured out to him as a loyal person who seen the good in people (though he has learned to be more discreet and plus being aware that he is Loki by the walls), maybe he could fall into that persona we seen in Norse mythology or maybe he could take that advice of gods being good. We will never know what is in the minds of the writers now. 

But yeah, if you want to see good child character development, do watch the play through or even better if you own the game, to play it firsthand.
