Awesome placenta facts
I think the placenta is fascinating... My body not only builds a tiny human, but also a whole new and disposable ORGAN - and sheds it afterwards! How friggin' cool is that?
1. The mom’s blood and baby’s blood do not touch. The placenta is where the maternal blood and baby blood exchange oxygen and nutrients.
2. The placenta secretes hormones. When you feel like a ‘hormonal mess’ during pregnancy, you can totally blame that on the placenta.
3. It is quite simplified to think that everything you eat goes straight to your baby. The food actually gets broken down into tiny particles of proteins and nutrients that cross the placenta. So if you are eating nutrient deprived food, you are not feeding your baby.
