Working for 72 hours straight is never the best idea, but Augustine seems to find himself in these situations more often than he’d like to admit, and almost always entirely out of his own volition. He dislikes the idea of putting his research down when he’s making progress, and he also doesn’t enjoy letting people dow--on top of that, when an idea pops into his head, he’s the first person to rush to see it through, regardless of the hours. These things combined make him prone to missing sleep, skipping meals, and working for hours on end. Tonight isn’t an exception to the rule, but rather a...well, doing exactly that--following his well-established pattern no matter how bad it is for him, but, in his defense, Diantha had asked him to do a bit more research on some strange happenings involving Mega Evolution as of late, and who was he to turn her down? Even if she absolutely did not imply he should lose sleep over it.
All of the coffee in the world was struggling to keep him awake at this point, and he was swallowing a yawn roughly every five minutes as Garchomp made an active effort to shove him away from his desk. At least the howl of the wind and the sound of branches scratching at the windows was enough to keep him fairly awake. Given the hour, the city seemed oddly lively. Or rather, it seemed eerie. The streets were mostly silent, but the doors still rattled and the glass still squeaked, and he could hear the faint cries of a Pokemon somewhere in the distance. Rubbing his temples he tried to drown out the sound in favor of working on his research just a bit more, but Garchomp’s insistent, and somewhat painful, headbutts were making that increasingly difficult. “Just a little bit more, I promise.” He tries to hush her with a pat on the head, but huffs in defiance.
But a knock on the door sends both him and Garchomp flying out of his chair with a fright--his arms wrapping around her shoulders as hers wrap around his in exchange. He clear his throat. “Ah, it must be the wind-” the knocking comes again, and the pair scramble to the front door.
