How do you guys work your grades? How do you get a sensible grade point average from a bunch of letters??? I can’t get it to make sense in my head!
Here, in Denmark, we have a seven point scale of numbers for grading. They are as follows:
-3: You didn’t even turn up for your exam, did you?
00: Okay, you’re here but… This is a math exam. We’re not interested in your understanding of German verbs. I’m sorry, but I have to fail you.
02: You’re here. You’re talking about the right things but you have it kinda backwards. No worries, though. You’re not great at this but I guess I can let you pass.
4: Well, it’s not impressive, but you’re sorta along the right lines. You pass. Have a nice life.
7: You have read your homework and you’re a pretty average student. Well done, now leave.
10: Ohh, nice. You have done your homework and you actually understood what it was about! Impressive. Here, have some niceness! I like people who aren’t dumbasses!
12: Amazing. Showstopping. Breathtaking. Brilliant. I can teach you no more. Now go. Be great. You make me so proud.
Now, each subject has a ‘weight’, because some subjects are more important than others, I guess. So you take your grade and multiply it by the weight and put that to one side while you do the same to all the other grades you’ve received. Some subjects weigh 2 and some weigh only 0.5. So you’ve multiplied all your grades by their weight, add them all up, divide by the number of grades you’ve gotten and BOOM you’ve got your grade point average as a number on the grading scale.
Because of this system, of course, there is a possibility to have a GPA that’s higher than 12. Every year one or two nerds graduate with a GPA higher than 12 and have a newspaper article written about them.
Personally my GPA from my high school levels (two-year HF) is only 4.7 which is not impressive but it’ll do for living a very average life.
STILL, HOW DO YOU CALCULATE A GPA FROM LETTERS????
