I'm in Bath today and tomorrow for my PGCE graduation. It's both mine and my (American) wife's first time here, but she sussed it out the second we got off the train.

Went to grad ball, actually enjoyed myself (the dodgems played a large part in this) and about six people all separately told me I looked beautiful, so I'm riding pretty high now Now to try to sleep...

so I had dinner with my dad and stepmom at a local brewco

and then took them to the least dive-y bar I could think of in the general vicinity

(note that “least dive-y” does not mean “not dive-y,” because it was definitely a bit of a dive)

in which I ordered a sour beer and informed my father that he would not like it and he tried and was like “you’re right”

and then he spent the next half hour glaring at the pair of dudes who chatted with me at the bar

and then told me that I am the most academic of his children and that he’d put money on me returning to academia at some point in the future and I denied it strongly but I have a sneaking suspicion he might be right
