I have made a terrible choice

I’m taking Renaissance and Restoration Lit and Sonnets confuse the fuck outta me. Why oh why didn’t I stick with Middle English. I at least understand that shit.

SAIS Asia Conference

For the last few years, SAIS has been hosting an Asia conference.  We invite graduate students from around the country to submit abstracts, work with the selected students to create excellent papers, and then host them at SAIS along with expert commentators and keynote speakers for a day of panels, talks, and receptions.

This year I helped organize the conference and moderate one of the panels.  It was a lot of work, but also a lot of fun!

What have I been up to?

I've been so caught up with reblogging cool posts, I forget to post something personal. Where should I start? Well I'm still an Assistant Manager at a sports retail store. I'm now pursuing my Master of Art in Communication, with a concentration in Public Relations from Southern New Hampshire University online. I hope to graduate next summer. I want to get an internship soon, I want to get as much hands in experience as possible. I'm still living at my parents' house; which sucks major ass, but I'm working on a plan to move out. I'm still single which is no big deal since these local guys aren't worth my time anyway. I have a plan to change my life for the better, I'm going to step out on faith and pray it all works out. Well that's my latest update in a nutshell.

Fear and Loathing in North Bay

So yesterday I had this terrible realisation that I'm not smart enough to get into graduate school. It happened when I calculated that I have a 59% in a class in which I need a 60% to pass. Not that I won't be able to pull that grade up by the end of the term. I totally will. But the thing is, if I want to take the second half of the course - which I would need to do my empirical thesis - I need a 75%.

Now why would I want to do an empirical thesis, you ask? That sounds unnecessarily difficult and painful. Well, my reasoning is that I want to do my Master's degree at U of T, and eventually my PhD. And with my mediocre grades, an empirical thesis would look really good on my transcript.

Why the hell would I want to go to U of T, or even get a PhD at all, you ask? That sounds like being in school for the rest of my life and being broke for a good chunk of it.

I want to be a therapist. I want to help people. I want to sit down with a family who is having issues and I want to facilitate a calm conversation in which they can work out their difference. I want to help someone come out to their family, and I want to help their family accept them. I want to save a couple from the brink of divorce. I want a lot of things.

But apparently I just have more ambition than brains.

So I'm not really sure what I'm going to do yet. I'm not going to drop out of uni. Primarily because my mother would murder me, but also because I have not worked this hard for nothing. I'm going to find something to do with this degree. Alternatively, I'll work in a flower shop for the rest of my life.

Fuck I'm scared.
