DJATS APPRECIATION WEEK: DAY TWO favorite musical moment: karen and graham smiling at each other (twice) during "let me down easy"
I will never understand people who read the book and still defend Graham and Karen as a couple. Let's forget the hot garbage that it is Karen's characterization on the show and focus on the main conflict between them that was the fact she didn't wanted a public relationship. In the book, Graham, 40 years later, holds a great resentment for Karen, whose sins were, in this order:
1. not want more than a casual relationship
2. make a decision about her own body that would affect only herself and her career
3. not require his feelings in the same intensity
They both admit he humiliated her greatly before say the famous quote "you never loved me as much as i loved you" or whatever. But still people pity him and treats this as a lovestory. He admits he hoped he could "change her mind" about kids which its just another way to say he hoped he could manipulate her to bow down and be the womb that make his picket fence dreams come to life. Karen also says that if she was him, a man, she probably would have wanted children because men know they aren't required to let it all go including themselves and be responsible for a new human. That's not a love story. Graham is not much better than Billy.
