As the sun had peaked through the curtains and Graham woke up, he wasn’t surprised that you weren’t in bed at all. You had stayed over the night before, and it was a relaxing night with the storm that had come through, but he knew that in his heart, that you loved the sun.
He knew you, while else would the two of you be engaged? And he knew that whenever the sun finally showed itself, espicially days storm after storm, that you would be out of bed and outside.
It’s partly why he called you sunshine because whenever he can’t find you, he could find you in the sunshine, basking in the rays of light.
So, when he looked through the window, he wasn’t at all surprised seeing you on a lawn chair, with your sunglasses on and reading a book. Graham couldn’t even help but smile at the sight of you in your sundress, with Camila right next to you, holding Julia.
Graham rolled himself out of bed, and actually decided to make an effort getting ready. After your insistence that once the pair of you got married, that you were not going to pick up or do his laundry for him, Graham had to learn himself how to actually use the washer and dryer.
Billy had to put out the fire that he caused from using the dryer because he forgot to clean the lint tray.
Yeah, it wasn’t pretty when Billy came back with his shirt all sooted from the fire. But it did make a good picture for Camila to take though and she even hanged it up on the wall in her and Billy’s room.
So, when Graham eventually came outside, he immediately went towards you, ignoring how his brother told him to watch out as he was replacing a window screen, his smile bright at the sight of you.
When the tall shadow blocked your view from the sun and made your book hard to read, you tilted down your sunglasses to look at your fiancé.
“Good morning,” You said simply, looking over at Camila as she bounced Julia with a smile on your face. “Thought you never show.”
Graham only leaned down to press a kiss to your lips before going over to his niece and sweetly gave her a raspberry on her cheek - which made the infant loudly laugh (if you could call whatever came out of her mouth a laugh).
“Sun woke me up,” Graham said simply, sitting down on the grass and lying back on the ground. “Then noticed that you weren’t in bed,”
“Gee, I wonder why,” Camila teased, causing you to laugh and gently swat her.
“Oh, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out why she wasn’t in bed,” Graham told Camila, causing her to laugh as you rolled your eyes at the lighthearted teasing that the pair were giving you.
You didn’t mind it really, you knew that you were out in the sun all the time. How you didn’t have a permanent tan even surprised you. Especially since you had a job especially being outside all the time. You just loved being in the sun, and that’s why Graham always called you his sunshine - as if you were the sun itself.
Perhaps you were when you think about it.
But you looked down at Graham as he held your hand and kissed it, like the romantic that he was.
You smiled before putting your sunglasses back on and going back to your book despite your limited ability of being able to turn the page since Graham was adamant of on holding your hand. But you did get a few good pages in despite your limited mobility.
It would be a few hours until Graham finally got up on the ground and took Camila’s place on the lawn chair. He only smiled as he watched you read, you seemed to shine in the sun just perfectly. The sun was you and you were the sun.
That’s what he loved about you. He loved how sweet you were and how natural you were about being around Julia. He didn’t expect it from you, but seeing you do it, it made him think about it more.
“You’re holding my hand like it’s a stress ball, what’re you thinking about?” Your voice rang out, making Graham jump at your relaxed tone as if this was a normal day. But thinking about it, this probably was a normal day for you - just being in the sun with him.
“Oh, um, nothing,” Graham lied, not wanting to give you an off putting thought at what he was thinking. “Was just thinking about how you were with Julia, you’re a natural, sunshine.”
You looked up, slightly surprised at his thoughts. “Oh, well, I mean…just preparing for the real thing,”
Graham blinked. “Real thing?”
“Well, yeah,” You chuckled, taking off your sunglasses fully to look at your fiancé. “I assume we’re gonna end up having kids, no? I know you always wanted to be a dad, ever since I met you in Pittsburgh.”
You said it with such a tone that made it hard for Graham to hold back his smile - and even so, he started smiling as you turned in the chair to fully face him. “Yeah, I do…” He muttered, looking at you with all the love in his eyes that he could muster. “Just as a thought…what would you name our child? If we had one like…tomorrow?”
At his question, you threw your head back and laughed. The sun had hit just right at that same moment, the beams of sun shining down on you. It was like Graham was actually seeing an angel in front of him for the first time.
But Graham had always thought that you were an angel, so that wasn’t different.
“I don’t know,” You said, tilting your head. “I never thought of anything for a boy, but I do like the name Marisol for a girl,”
Graham nodded, a smile on his face as he listened to your words.
“What does it mean? I mean, it’s gotta mean something, like…Sun?” Graham said, a teasing tone in his voice but was actually surprised when you had nodded in confirmation.
“It does mean sun, actually,” You confirmed, chuckling as you flipped your hair over your shoulder. “I mean, I don’t know why you even ask,”
You laughed as Graham shook his head, he did know that it would probably mean something like the sun, and to be quite honest, he did like the name - he loved it actually. He never thought of it, but the name Marisol was perfect.
“Well, if we have a girl, one day,” Graham said, quickly adding the last of his words at the sight of you raising an eyebrow, “Then I say we name her Marisol then, and if we ever have a boy in that regard…we should find a name with the same meaning, sun.”
Naming his children practically after the sun was something that he would never thought of doing, but now that he had his sunshine in his arms, going to be his for eternity in just a few months times, he couldn’t think of anything else.
Graham Dunne had found his sun, and it wasn’t in the one that was shining so brightly down on him. It was you, you were his sun. And he couldn’t have it any other way.
