REFLECTION TO #WOTL
BY: VINCENT RALPH E. SEGURA
“A self-named show of Lourd De Veyra, that is why it is called Word of the Lourd. It is a short television segment which airs daily on TV5’s news channel Aksyon TV 41 and formerly on TV5. Whilst it isn’t really a surprise having this kind of show but what differs WOTL or Word of the Lourd is the fact that it delivers his information in a straight, direct and a bit humorous way. Most of the time, he gives it in his own way leaving the viewers and audiences hanging for them to search for what it meant”.(Beltran 2015)
From the first five episode of this documentary, It felt so overwhelming in just a short period of time each episode last, different issues was tackled by Mr. De Veyra and its impressive to think that aside from being entertain, you also actually absorb ideas that incude political issues and common problems facing in this nation. After watching his shows, I realized that it’s so important in the community the strength of people’s participation in a political movement and get involved about the socio-economic problems for this be able to gather adequate solution to this matter. Each issue must be address in the community and clarity of relaying this information shows a fine result to inform every individual in this nation.
In the first show I watch (WOTL: Ang Galungong, Bow). I realized how the production of Galunggong (Mackerel skuds) important in the daily meal of the Filipinos. It’s heart-breaking fact seeing the increasing cost of every kilo of mackerel in the market around metro-manila. Surigaonon are still blessed with this kind of fish but unfortunately, even in a vast wide ocean in the Philippines, nation still encounter difficulty in maintaining the production of Galunggong that they need to import this raw fish mostly in China, Thailand and Vietnam. I disagree about the statement “Inflation is ok as long as the economy is ok” because not everyone experience to achieve a high amount of salary in their work. As the viand capital for the family belong to the average and low economic status, having Galunggong in daily consumption is a gift enough to consume with.
In the second show I watch (WOTL: Bad Words 2018). Having the ability when to use “ng” at “nang” in Filipino language is a skill in the Philippines. Even the natural born Filipino are confuse about the usage of this conjunction in writing. I observed that mistakenly use of this conjunction especially when you are typing sentence will receive a great judgment particularly from those finest people who already into the Filipino grammar. Aside from that, the arise of Jejemon word in my opinion will led people to have a difficulty in decoding message. The confusing use of letters, numbers combination to form a word actually an informal form of communication. I stand against using this street language as a medium in communication only confuse between persons in communicating thus it will affect the flow of understanding with other. Newly born words must be given enough orientation to prevent such miscommunication.
In the third show I watch (WOTL: Delete the Facebook). We all know that facebook is the biggest platform in social media use by numerous netizens. From the latest issue involving facebook in Cambridge Analytica Scandal, people must be careful to engage personal information in their social account. To be able to prevent the exposure of personal data in your account users must limit themselves to share your personal views and manage to control providing a lot of information in the platform. Privacy of one’s individual life is still encouraged to be remaining private unless you have the urge to share without regret. Regarding to Mr. Zuckerburg, I found him no guilty because he has a point that mostly the users don’t read terms and conditions before you can create an official account in Facebook. It is also the loss of each individual’s entertainment when facebook will completely ban in any social media patforms.
In the fourth show I watch (WOTL: Ang Bakuna, Bow!). In the devastating casualties cause by dengvaxia vaccines to the young children really is painful in the heart of its family. The loss of precious life of the children took dengvaxia as a triggering factor to their despair. I realize upon distributing vaccines especially for the children, professional involved in this activity must be careful enough in injecting vaccines that it may cause no harm to the person being injected.
In the fifth show I watch (WOTL: Ang Pasko ay Sumabit). In every traffic situation in the street, people really in distress and tired upon waiting to the slow movement of vehicles. In this case, street fights really possible considering the mood of every driver during traffic. I realized people got easily deceive from anger during traffic resulted to make a scene or fight towards other driver. To resolve the conflict, each individual must practice patience and humility to prevent violent acts which are immoral in the eyes of others.
Throughout the five different short documentaries I have seen in the World of the Lourd, I gained lots of realization that I surely keep in my entire life. I’m so glad that through this, even if I don’t usually hang on news channel or news report, I still keep myself updated because this show was uploaded in the social media platforms at the same time entertained to the style of the show in expressing rampant issues in humorous way. I consider this show as a piece of contemporary art because obviously through its use of media, the style of cinematography, transition, form and the way he delivered the documentaries quite a genius to captivate people’s attention and capture the taste of the community. The use of poetic tone in delivering message and recalling just a glimpse of history gives additional mixture for the satisfaction of a good art.
