How did Mary's parents feel about her dating/marrying Fred? And (if you haven't already??) can you tell us how he proposed to her?

My pet answer is that Fred proposed to her at a bruce springsteen concert.... as to whether tour dates line up or he would have had the money for that, jury is out... but that’s what i have 

I love to think about Mary’s parents!! I don’t have a ton of headcanons for them. I think to an extent they were small-town folk through and through who definitely regarded Mary (fondly and proudly) as headstrong, impressively bright, and the type who would go off and outshine her family in the big world. That said, they may have felt separate from the typical monocultural life experience of other riverdale families like the coopers and the andrewses because of being Jewish and having that different lived experience. I also doubt they were as fanatical about appearances as those central families were and were more laid back and friendly as a result. I think Mary had two younger brothers/siblings as well.  

They liked Fred - it’s almost impossible not to - though they easily could have seen Mary ending up with someone more ambitious or intellectually driven. Not that they thought she settled - I think Fred really impressed them once he grew out of his renegade teenage phase and took to running the family business and taking care of his mom. There was some chafing in the years he was serenading Mary outside their window age 13-16 and generally running around being a flake with Hermione sometimes but they always kind of saw that he brought out the best in Mary and she kept coming back to him... When they got serious while Mary was in college they thought it was really nice that she was still dating a boy from their small town and that Fred was so devoted to her that he’d make the trek to Mary’s university to see her. They obviously sided with Mary in the divorce but things never got really ugly and they love Archie and are still in his life.

A Concept: the incomparable Kelly Bishop as Grandma Cooper - Hal’s mother, and Alice’s mentor/nemesis.

Could there BE anything more delightful than watching Madchen Amick and Kelly Bishop play off each other?
