Jekyll and Hyde but they're one of those reversible octopus plushies everyone went nuts for in the early 2020s
Jekyll with one of those kitchy coffee mugs that says "don't talk to me before I've had my serum" with like, a clipart of an angry cat on it
Utterson: - so in order to faciliate the legal procedures of this testament for both of us, I am required to see some personal papers. Your birth certificate should be a good place to start.
Hyde: *fishing out a loose notebook page and sliding it across the desk*
Utterson:...
Utterson: I-
Utterson: Mr. Hyde, that is a lab report-
I like putting my things into little boxes, so for the JnH fandom I will from now on put each of y'alls interpretations of Jekylls/Hydes condition into two possible categories:
Masquerade (Same dude, different disguises)
Puppetry (Different dudes, same body)
Rating gothic literature scientists based on how their evil laugh would sound
Victor Frankenstein: A mad, hoarse giggle. Perpetually hysterical and nervous when he does laugh but also with a note of twisted wonder. Coined the classic howling-laughter-with-lightning-backdrop-trope but almost got his asthma to flare up halfway through. 7/10
Henry Jekyll: While it's expected for his counterpart to sound all nasty and snarky, hearing Jekyll emit an evil laugh seems almost uncanny. You do NOT want to be on that other end. 10/10 for the cognitive dissonance lol
Edward Hyde: That man can only ever laugh evilly. That's his default, he can't help it. Though when he's REALLY riled up and exhilerated it turns into a horrid screechy cackle 10/10
Griffin: The kind of sadistic laugh a ne'er-do-good villain would make as he ties his hapless victim to the traintracks while rubbing his hands mischievously. Imagine getting beat up by thin air and all you hear is MWEHEHEHAHA 7/10
Philipp P. Preobrazhensky: Less evil and more...mischievous I suppose, with a jolly undertone. He's oddly blasé with commiting surgical atrocities. 9/10 because his mustache twitches upwards
James Moriarty: THE quiet rich people laugh if you've ever heard one. A deep, cheeky hm-hm sound as he contemplates his game of mindchess with Sherlock. 6/10
I find myself pretty chuffed by the idea of both Jekyll and Hyde being like...actually in a loving and healthy relationship for once? Albeit a very unconventional one? Said partner would have to be pretty unconventional too obv.
Like, I've seen so many adaptations of Hyde being portrayed as this abusive, hyperviolent wife/girlfriend beater and I think to say this concept has aged like milk is an understatement.
Ahdnsjhd anyways, I'm not very well-versed in expressing myself in such matters, so I'll just, dump a bunch of fluffy prompts:
- Jekyll being very, absurdly timid with PDA (he's already turning pink when holding hands at the park). Meanwhile Hyde constantly throwing himself onto his spouse whenever
- s/o being upset and Jekyll gently inquiring which one of him they'd rather have comforting them at the moment
- if s/o is a wife, Hyde getting her the longest, sharpest, pointiest hatpin (to stab unwanted suitors with)
- "hey, do you want me to kill that guy for you? Because I could, you know. I could kill him if I wanted and nobody will ever know, just say the word, LET ME KILL HIM FOR YOU-"
- s/o adressing their disappointment that they have to sleep alone most of the time because their husband spends half the night as Hyde and only returns at 5 in the morning
- s/o providing both support and aftercare when the transformation is a particularly rough one
- "so I know this gala is in 20 minutes, but Hyde said this kummerbund makes me look fat, -which it doesn't!- and now we need a third opinion..."
- Hyde getting flirted at by s/o unexpectedly and getting so flustered he almost turns into Jekyll on the spot
- "What do you mean BOTH of you have forgotten to eat today!?"
- Jekyll gifting his spouse flowers on the regular and Hyde getting them useless but pretty trinkets and the severed fingers of their enemies or something
little dump of unspecific gothic literature headcanons (part two electric boogaloo):
- Hyde got himself steelcapped boots once. You never know whom you'll have to kick in the nuts tonight
- Adam would absolutely be one to correct other people's grammar. Not only because he's pretentious, but it's also a pet peeve of his
- The Baker Street irregulars have an ongoing rivalry with Fagin's gang and get into fights often. Especially Wiggins and Dodger
- Utterson was head of the chess club back in college and has up until this point beaten both Jekyll and Lanyon every single time
- Jekyll has played the piano from a young age. First he despised it, then he bragged with it and now he barely has any time because work. His friends still insist on him playing at gatherings after a few glasses
- Holmes is a hyperflexible fellow, which means whenever he has no guests over and/or when he's thinking extra hard or something, he'll sit in his armchair with his limbs in impossible angles all over the place. My man doesn't know how to get comfortable normally
-Watson's wounded arm still gives him grief from time to time, especially during rainy and gloomy weather
No matter how you decide to portray Jekyll's/Hyde's relationship with himself, no matter the personal spin and twist you put on it, how much enmity or benevolence he expresses towards both of himself, it is always going to be something absolutely visceral and I LIVE for that.
