#gray headed chickadee

the gray-headed chickadee, also known as the siberian tit, is a small passerine bird found in scandinavia and the northern palearctic along with restricted ranges in alaska and canada. they are conifer specialists, and feed on insects and spiders along with conifer seeds (they have also been observed feeding on dead caribou). interestingly, their name implies a gray head, but this chickadee’s notable cap is brown.

"In North America this is the rarest and most poorly known of the chickadees, living only in remote areas of northern Alaska and northwestern Canada. Determined birders who seek it, traveling by bush plane or wilderness road, may find it at a few sites where spruces and willows grow along Arctic streams. In northern Europe, where the species is known as 'Siberian Tit,' its habits are better known."
