I havent been onlie for a long time bc school started and Im already super bussy again. However, this isnt supposed to be a text to apologize for having a real life. *Wow Ive got a real life never thought it would come to this*
What I really want to say is, that I want to share a little story with you guys :)
I live in Austria and during the past few weeks a lot of refugees from Syria travelled through my city. My home town is situated near the border to Germany and that’s where most of them want to live in. Just to show you how serious the situation is: At just one day ca. 11 000 new Refugees enter Austria.
In my City there is is a huge hall where the refugees who dont want to stay in Austria are able to sleep or just to stay and rest. Of course they also get food medical facilities and stuff like that.
Of course there are also a lot of children, who didnt have the posibility to be a child for a long time, so the scouts from my home town organized a kindergarten in that big hall for these kids. The “Kindergarten” is a 6qm large carpet with things like pencils, papers, building bricks, plasticine,... u know stuff like that. At normal days 6 scouts between the age of 16 and 25 run this “Kindergarten” and take care of the children. Some days ago I was one of them.
First i wasnt really sure if i should do that bc you know, you are a little bit nervous how these children might act because of their experiences and all the things they had gone through. But well, I decided that i really want to help these people and when I get the chance to help, why waste it?
So I got there at 10 a.m. with my bf and we had to take care of the children for 5 hours. First, there werent a lot of people in the hall but after 20 minutes or something like that a train arrived at the train station with like 100 Refugees. During the day 3 more trains arrived. First the kids didnt really know if they should come to us but u know, there are always some brave ones who make the start :)
So the first boy came to us (he was 6 or something like that) , and starred at me for like 20 seconds When I realised that he was starring at me I gave him a smile and thats when he smiled back at me, sat down an started to draw something. I watched him for a while and then I started showing him what else he could use to make his drawing a special one. After every suggestion I showed him he smiled at me, gave me a thumb up and said “danke”. That means “thank you”.It was the only word he knew in my language. After a while we started playing football or building some towers with the building bricks. The kids always laughed so much when the towers were so high that they broke down. All these children were so happy and open minded just as kids are.
The only thing that reminded me of what they have gone through were some of their drawings. Most of them drew trains and boats. One of these kids gave me a drawing of a street with two houses, a tree, and a hill in the background. At the right top corner of the sheet he wrote “Afghanistan” with the little imperfect letters he could already write. He smiled at me and i smiled back, trying not to cry.
However, we nearly forgot the time and when the 5 hours had finally passed I was really sad to go home bc i really enjoied spending time with these kids and I more or less became friends with the 6 year old boy I already told you about. He was such a creative, happy and polite kid who was always taking care of the other kids and I knew that I will never see him again.
I dont really know why I wrote this long text, maybe just to share my experience, to show you in how many ways you can help to make this world a better place and how just one smile can make someone incredibly happy.
