The Huntington Train Display Kickoff for 2019 at the Main Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library last month featured a Rockette-style dance routine, a few musically talented librarians, and Santa Claus himself lit the tree behind the Library at the Topiary Park.
Highlights from the Ohioana Book Festival 2019
The Ohioana Book Festival was this past weekend at the Main Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library. The festival, organized by the State Library of Ohio (located in Italian Village), was a day-long festival to promote Ohio authors and/or books based in Ohio. There were panel discussions spread throughout the library, food trucks outside, and the author fair up in the second floor Reading Room event space. Exhibitors included the Public Library Systems from Toledo, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Upper Arlington, Pickerington, and Ohio University, the Buckeye Crime Writers, Upper Arlington bookstore “Cover to Cover” Books, and the tri-annual publication, Story.
The Holidays in Columbus ‘18: The Main Library/Topiary Park Tree Lighting
On Wednesday, the second Annual Light the Night Celebration took place at the Main Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library and adjacent Topiary Park. The Huntington Train, designed by Paul Busse, was on display at the Main Library for the ninth time. There were cookies, hot chocolate, and cider, live reindeer, activities for the children, and sing-a-long Christmas Carols.

The grand opening for the NEW branch of the Martin Luther King Library opened its doors on October 18. The keynote speech was given by Martin Luther King III, the son of the famed Civil Rights leader. The new library at 1467 E. Long St. was built on the site of the former Eastside Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, which closed in 1969, when the old Martin Luther King Branch opened (Rev. Martin Luther King Sr. was at that ceremony) at 1600 E. Long St. Dignitaries, including U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty, Columbus Mayor Andrew J. Ginther, Ohio State House Representatives Bernadine Kennedy Kent and Hearcel Craig, and Columbus City Council President Shannon Hardin were among those giving remarks at the ribbon cutting ceremony.
