She wasn’t ‘doing a Diana.’ Meghan’s put us on notice: She’s not about to give up her voice.
I’m surprised Meghan lasted this long. This is a woman whose adopted country’s second-favorite newspaperwarned British citizens that she’s “Straight outta Compton”; who’s a target of bizarre pregnancy truthers; whose angry, distant family is continually given a platform to slam her; and who is unequivocally subjected to racist coverage and commentary from mainstream media down to vile and/or mentally unwell social media trolls.
Gossip maven Lainey predicted on her blog that, while putting out such a story to squelch unkind, false coverage is understandable, “swinging dramatically in the other direction will provoke a reaction.” And so it did, starting with some old white guys who expect a young American woman of color to shut up and stay in her place. Former Buckingham Palace press secretary Dickie Arbiter told the Mail the story has “opened a Pandora’s Box, in my opinion. The issue with her father is an open wound and I’m not entirely sure it is the best idea to aggravate that.”
Fellow old white guy Richard Kay offers vague warnings that Meghan is “playing with fire” by letting friends speak out on her behalf. I don’t think they should worry too much. Seems Kate Middleton hasn’t suffered much from her family planting stories and providing anonymous tips and quotes to journalists for over a decade, so I’m betting Meghan will be fine on that front. Is it possible what’s riling the British media is that Megan’s friends spoke to an American publication?
Hux is a treacherous bastard. That’s all I have to say...auuuugh! Did I mention that in addition to being a masterful storyteller, @perrydowning can also write damn good suspense? Just got to chapter 30 and there is a TWIST! One more chapter before I am caught up with Unbidden!
