I only joined this fandom last week so I'm still not caught up on everything, so I'm curious how we know (/are educated guessing?) there's going to be a hostage situation in 5x07! I keep seeing people refer to it, but can't find a source!!

Basically, a few weeks ago there were pics + videos from set while they were filming for 5x7 that included, among other things, Eddie being held hostage + surrendering to SWAT, Buck and Eddie yelling for each other, etc. So while we don't know the precise context/exactly how it's all going to go down, we do know that Eddie is going to be taken hostage at some point during the episode and based on how Buck usually handles situations where Eddie is in danger, I'm sure he will be super calm and stable and chill about it.

if i’m getting game content i usually screen record. i have a google chrome extension that works really well. if it’s youtube or a video on twitter i use one of the youtube/twitter to mp4 sites.

screen recording doesn’t always create the most beautiful quality videos, but they suit my needs enough. hope this helps and lmk if you have anymore questions! i’d love to help :)

your mini-metas are reminding me.... didn't the conversation between becky & chuck earlier this season basically predict this episode? "villains are boring, nobody mentions cas, etc."?

They have planted things all season long, laying out these themes. Others have articulated this better than I have, but along with the deep dive character arcs, character driven stuff, S15 has been a meta-textual commentary on SPN itself. 

While the ep didn’t follow Chuck’s bleak ending, Becky’s criticisms are still ringing in our head.

Things that didn’t seem to fit, such as: 

Sam was ready to collapse over losing Eileen last week’s ep after she got snapped, and didn’t just so he could keep one foot in front of the other. Does it fit that he would just shrug and go “here’s to all we’ve lost” -- he doesn’t even try to contact her after everyone is unsnapped.

Dean was on the floor sobbing over Cas last week. They showed a few signs of his grief this week. He is still wearing the hand-print stained jacket. Dean drinks so much he passes out on the library floor. He yells at Chuck “you’re gonna bring him back.” That’s authentic, but the ep didn’t dig too deep into it, and then by the end, clinking beer bottles with Sam, here’s to all we’ve lost, it’s just us now omg yay drive off in the Impala.

Castiel carved on the bunker table just underscores how off this is, because the actions of the ending are undermining that gesture.

It doesn’t fit, because it’s not supposed to. 

The montage was just not where it’s at. Cute. Be great to open a CE convention with.

SPN has always been about family and this ep was brilliantly showing how empty it is throwing Sam and Dean artificially back to their early mode of just 2 bros in a car, that isn’t who they are now, it doesn’t fit the mood or tone of the entire season to date.

This episode behaved like a series finale. The villain is defeated. Here’s a montage to all the SPN characters. But it wasn’t the series finale. That’s next week. And now every radar I have for this show is beeping full tilt.

got one more thing about the finale to get off my chest if you'll indulge me-- cas is alive and implied to still be angelic/have powers. you're telling me he didn't pop down to tell sam real quick that jack fixed heaven & dean was doing good in the afterlife?? so sam could live a guilt-free 40 years with his faceless wife & 2.5 kids? gahhh.

Nah that would require logic and understanding of narrative storytelling and I’m pretty sure the spn writers don’t have either of those

The storm destroyed Gerard's shelter last night.

That's fine. They've had worse.

They change out of their wet clothes, in the cold and low light of the morning. Their other outfit is in a carefully concealed bag. Still awkward khakis and a t-shirt. They're most comfortable this way; it's fine. They tie up their long, slightly matted hair and search for higher ground.

As they climb, the sun climbs with them. They've found a walking stick, which doesn't do much else but make them feel cool while no one else can see. Again, this is fine; their favorite parts of themself is when they do things that no one else finds cool. Like getting lost in the wilderness, too many miles from civilization. Like waking up to a hot, humid morning with no food and no direction. Becoming one with the earthy scents around them.

They make it to the top. It's not that tall a hill but they can see their entire town in front of them. A quick glance around and they know there are so many directions they could go - back home, back to...whoever might be waiting; back down, toward where they parked their car; or in a totally new direction, full of secrets to be discovered. Gerard just marvels at the warm horizon for a moment before deciding, not that it really takes much decision.

They continue further away from their car, from their town. Eventually they find the river and walk alongside it. They're so hungry, so thirsty. So at peace. They'll find another shelter for the night; they'd almost forgotten the moderately heavy backpack of supplies they'd taken for their little self-searching adventures. Maybe today will be the day they find themself.

Or it'll just be another day.
