"I didn't expect you to come back," he admitted, nursing the drink in front of him, barely able to look the other in the eye. It wasn't a messy breakup, but after spending most of his teenage years in love with them, it was a heartache only one could imagine. "How long has it been since we last talked?"

Was that a challenge? Blake’s face remained innocent but he could see the wheels turning. Taking a claim on her — right here, in the middle of a crowded room, surrounded by half the people they’ve known their whole lives — would be a bold way to get a message across. That she was his. No, that she belonged to him. No reason to shy away from her exact words. Not when that’s clearly how she wanted to feel. Nicolo has been nothing less than bashful every time they’ve been in public together, carefully choosing where he touched her. Small towns created watchful eyes, after all, and Nic wasn’t trying to rush assumptions. They were figuring out being a couple meant for them; there wasn’t a reason to let anything get in between that.

Though, he had to admit, he caught himself resisting putting his hands all over her more often than not. Especially tonight, as the empty beer bottles piled up. Even under the dim, yellow light, Blake radiated. He smiled, enjoying the view. “You would like that, huh?” Arms crossed on the sticky table, Nic leaned forward. Suddenly frustrated that she chose to sit across from him, where he couldn’t secretly slide a hand on her inner thigh. He motioned for her to meet him halfway. She listened. No time was wasted placing his lips against hers, soft and warm. Nic wasn’t known to be the possessive type but this kiss did what she asked. Lingering just long enough to put his name on it. “I might be a bit drunk but I think someone made you for me, Blake,” he teased, keeping his forehead relaxed against hers. The smirk doesn’t go away, feeling too happy, too sentimental for it to fade. He didn’t love that she had this effect on him but he chose to stop hiding from it weeks ago. “C’mere.”

They were almost comical from a distance. Just mindlessly wandering in search of sustenance while Brandy and Dean sat perched on the hood of the car. Brandy had her shotgun at the ready but the zombies in the distance weren't worth the waste of precious ammo. "I think it's more of a lights are on but nobody's home situation."

Conrad hadn't noticed. Across the hall, the brunette tried her best to come off as flirty, not showing any sign of subtly about her attempt. One of the moms. She wasn't the first and probably wouldn't be the last. He was younger than them and just handsome enough to garner their attention when they were especially bored with their husbands. It was something Merrick pointed out on several occasions when they waited for the bell to ring every morning, her classroom next to his. Only now Conrad and Merrick have been divorced for six months and hearing her say it sounded different. It almost seemed... Envious? Not a characteristic he was used to from the blonde. This conversation wouldn't be happening at all if the principal agreed to move him to a different room, but it was too late in the year and they had to learn to coexist even while Conrad was screaming inside. "Good thing I don't think it's your business how anyone looks at me anymore, right?" His smile was smug, looking over at Merrick as he was perched against the concrete wall, coffee in hand. Conrad had only made it to the second stage of grief since their separation — anger. Most of his remarks remained snarky and bitter, reminding his ex-wife every chance he had that she left, not him.

i have ALWAYS wanted to write my muse alice as an android. i think i created her originally as an android and based her main plotline off the movie her (2013), where she is this curious and funny AI who befriends someone lonely and quite the opposite of her. and then they fall in love bc i'm shameless. i haven't had a plot like this in years though and would always be down for one!!

usually right in the morning as soon as i wake up because i don't have work to worry about yet, or around dinnertime. sometimes right before bed. it usually depends on how busy i am!
