“What are you doing inside?” There was a teasing lilt to Fiddleford’s voice as he hung up his light summer jacket and kicked off his shoes by the door.

“It’s a beautiful night, and in case you hadn’t noticed, Stan, there were fireworks goin’ off just half an hour ago! I caught ‘em out of the window of my car on the way over— I hope you at least bothered to take a peek at the finale. Those were the best I’ve seen in years!”

He turned to beam at Stanley, feeling good from a full day of productive work, molasses pops, and a lovely lightshow on his way home to a friend he had missed all day.

But Stanley was not smiling back.

“Uh--”

McGucket’s grin faded and he glanced around uncertainly. It was always somewhat awkward to interrupt someone’s bad mood with your good one, and it took him a moment to gather up the courage to ask:

“...Stanley, what’s wrong?”

Freezing. If he had to describe himself right now, frozen to the bone. Seconds ago, he’d been stood on the warm sands of Glass Shard Beach, and now he was stood in the middle of what looked like an eternal winter. Not even the jacket he was wearing was enough ward off the cold, and he was shaking.

He’d been stood outside the shack a couple minutes now, knocking every now and then. Stanford thought about calling it quits, but this forest was vast and wide and he was practically an ice cube. It’d be risky traversing through it, and he had no idea where he was going.

❝ I’m so-sorry to b-bother you! ❞ he tried to call out, his voice trembling. ❝ But co-...could I use your phone? I d-don’t... kn-know where I am, and I ne-need to call my pa-parents.❞

                     “A  gun,  really?”  Mabel  opened  her  gift  and  picked  up  the  gun  carefully.  Her  eyes  widened  and  she  carefully  placed  the  gun  back  in  the  box.  She  set  it  aside  and  hugged  Stan  tightly.  “I  don’t  even  know  how  to  use  it!  But  I’ll  be  careful,  I  promise!  Will  you  teach  me?”

( you’re all so very kind and supportive, and it means a lot to me. thank you! i was thinkin’ i’d try and get my ford started up proper this weekend. might review his episodes and stuff again, too, to refresh his voice in my brain.

also bill is REALLY hard to write properly, i totally get the struggle. i think yours is really good from what i’ve seen thusfar! )
