AU
Here we go for @edweenweek .
Here’s a “What if...” au for you all. Sorry it’s so late.
I hope you all enjoy it!
Winry stared at Ed from her chair, eyes wide and searching. Ed looked back, eyes hard, lips curled into a sneer, and arms crossed at his chest.
“I don’t understand,” Winry breathed. “What do you mean that’s not Ed?” Ling placed a hand on her shoulder, brows peaked in worry. He spoke slowly, regret weighing down his voice.
“He has another soul in him, Winry,” he explained. “They have to take turns using his body. That’s not Ed right now.”
Screenshot redraws for this very ancient roleswap AU i made a while back (here and here are the links to the old posts abt it, please excuse how weird it looks compared to my modern art style asdfghhj)
Okay I had to draw this real quick cuz I would LOVE to see this happen, honestly
‘cause Lust would absolutely love to punish Greed for abandoning the homonculi, if she remembers that, or for just being an upstart little prick, and Greed’s a rebellious idiot who’s always ready to throw down, especially with someone familiar and matching his strength (I imagine Lust’s claws are made of roughly the same material as Greed’s Shield, just designed more for sharpness and flexibility than durability).
So layer this rivalry ON TOP OF Ed and Roy’s already-existing rivalry which follows the same dynamic of chaos vs. order, and what you get is Fullmetal VS. Flame Round 2, the greatest smackdown of the century. Alchemist powers AND Homonculus powers controlled by two sets of rivals who refuse to back down out of stubborn pride.
Whoever wins, we lose, cuz they’d probably destroy half-a-city between the two of them. both the protagonists and antagonists are left watching dumbstruck, or with popcorn.
(From Greed!Ed) "Five Times the Love"
Send “5 Times the Love” for a drabble based on five times my muse fell in love with your muse
He hadn’t meant to stay out so late nor had he meant to get too drunk to walk back to Greed’s. Time had easily slipped through his fingers after the third beer, and by then another had been placed in front of him. Followed by a few more. Calling Greed hadn’t been his intention either, but Ed had the misfortune of getting lost when he finally decided to get up and leave the bar. Maybe it was his hazy mind or maybe it was those small, yet noticeable differences in streets and locations. Either way, the end result was the same. Ed needed to get home, and he had no one else he trusted to come get him. No other friends, only a few acquaintances he had met in passing.
His head had been resting in his lap to stop the vertigo he had ever since he sat down when he heard footsteps. Looking up, Ed let his vision settle on the familiar boots, then worked its way up before settling on Greed’s eyes. There was actual concern and worry in them. Ed could tell that much even though he was drunk. It felt nice to have someone else concerned for his well being. It made his stomach do that weird little flip flop thing it did occasionally when Greed came near him. Even though the other’s facial expression seemed crabby and annoyed, Ed couldn’t help the soft smile that crept up over his face. “Hey,” he said softly. He managed a half-assed wave of his left hand before letting it drop back down. Ed propped his chin up with his right and tilted his up upwards so he could get a better look at those violet eyes and simply allowed himself to sit there for a moment and take it all in.
Greed had come to pick him up. Ed had known he would, yet having it actually happen made his stomach to that weird flippy thing again. The empty street suddenly didn’t make him feel alone or isolated. He was in good company.
The Illusion of Familiarity
As the sin had looked around, he noticed the stranger lift his hand, an action just odd enough to get Greed’s attention. Quirking a brow, he sighed heavily at the pointed gaze that met him. “Um, what’s the point of that” he asked, casually pointing to the outstretched hand, fingers poised like they were going snap. He knew he should probably be thinking of this guy as some sort of threat and not just some do-gooder, but it was really hard to when the guy looked ridiculous.
Standing with his arms crossed defensively over his chest, he trained violet eyes on the man, watching him carefully now. If one looked quickly they really would think he were Edward, he was the same height, his hair was braided (though longer than Ed’s had been), he was even wearing the same clothing Ed was last seen in, tattered from being under the rubble, but the same none the less. It was very clear thought that his arm and leg were no longer automail but flesh…
Rolling his eyes lightly at the question, or maybe it was more the tone that it had been delivered in, Greed looked slightly annoyed. “I guess since you did help me get out there I can give ya my name… It’s Greed. But don’t think I’m gonna give it to you without knowing yours too. Mostly because I at least want a name to go with that face in case I ever run into you again.”

What was the point? Surely the homunculus knew what he was capable of, right? Roy let his hand drop all the way to his side and scowled. If this homunculus didn't know then that meant he had no memories of when he used to be... Roy closed his eyes, feeling the sting of what had happened to Ed all the more. In the end, he had been powerless to help out the brothers. For all his caution over the years, it meant nothing.
Finally, he got a name, after they both sized one another up. Now that Roy had a closer look, this Greed was whole. The automail was gone and the color of his eyes were different. Ed had mentioned this one in passing, but Roy didn't know near enough what to expect or what his weakness would be. With Bradly, he had gotten lucky, though his luck had been paid for in exchange for Selim's life.
“I'm Colonel Roy Mustang. I work for the military and came to check on a subordinate of mine.” He kept his voice clear and pushed down the sickening feeling in the pit of his stomach. Roy took a step back to give himself space, and the sound of broken concrete echoed through his ears. Even though they weren't standing too close, he couldn't get away from this man fast enough. Still, he wouldn't leave until he figured out what Greed planned to do next.
He just had to concentrate and focus on what to do next and ask the right things. “What... are your intentions once you leave this place, and where do you plan to go?” He had to know. Letting the homunculus go in some ways would be more beneficial. If Roy brought him in, looking like Ed, there would be too many questions and most likely they would try to keep him contained or worse. Roy didn't even know why he cared. It wasn't as if the creature knew who Ed was. Or was it possible he did. "Do you... remember who you were before now?" he cautiously asked, not taking his eyes away from the homunculus.
Enigma
Greed lounged back against the headboard as he looked down at Ed beside him. “Yeah well, I don’t think I could’ve turned you away even if I’d wanted to,” he replied quietly. “I mean, you weren’t out to screw me, I could tell, and you had my face, well for the most part. And…” his voice trailed off a bit and he looked away from Ed. HE wasn’t sure if he should continue but then, knowing the kid, he wouldn’t be let off the hook until he did.
"And… I can touch you and be around you, someone who looks like the kid in my head but I don’t get the headaches or the weird dreams or flashbacks or any of the stuff I get when I go a lot of places or see people. You look just like I do and yet none of that stuff happens. I don’t get it, but you’re the first person that I thought I should ‘know’ that hasn’t done that to me… I don’t get it, but I’m not about to walk away from something like that either. It’s not every day I run across someone who seems to know me, or at least the other versions I mentioned, that I can be around for more than a few minutes at a time…"
(moved from ask meme with multimusehideout)
"I know a lot of people who would’ve done that regardless." If Greed hadn’t let him stay, Ed was certain he would have only found trouble. This world was so different from his own in so many ways. People weren't as nice. Everything seemed so much... darker. His smile faded, though when he thought over what Greed told him.
"What do you mean… headaches and flashbacks?" Ed knew the homunculi from this world were different but it wasn’t something he and Greed had talked about down to the last detail. "Are those because of him?" Ed could never quite come out and say it because thinking about how human transmutations created a homunculus, he had put two and two together. The Edward Elric in this world had died. And someone had either tried to bring him back out of grief or knew that doing a human transmutation would result in creating Greed.
