DAENERYS APPRECIATION MONTH 2021: ↳ Day 17: Feminist Moments
The priestess and the seneschal were happy to see her garbed in a tokar, a proper Meereenese lady for once, but what they really wanted was to strip her bare.
Daenerys heard them out, incredulous.
When they were done, she said, “I have no wish to give offense, but I will not present myself naked to Hizdahr’s mother and sisters.”
“But,” said Reznak mo Reznak, blinking, “but you must, Your Worship. Before a marriage it is traditional for the women of the man’s house to examine the bride’s womb and, ah… her female parts. To ascertain that they are well-formed and, ah…”
“…fertile,” finished Galazza Galare. “An ancient ritual, Your Radiance. Three Graces shall be present to witness the examination and say the proper prayers.”
“Yes,” said Reznak, “and afterward there is a special cake. A women’s cake, baked only for betrothals. Men are not allowed to taste it. I am told it is delicious. Magical.”
And if my womb is withered and my female parts accursed, is there a special cake for that as well? “Hizdahr zo Loraq may inspect my women’s parts after we are wed.” Khal Drogo found no fault with them, why should he? “Let his mother and his sisters examine one another and share the special cake. I shall not be eating it. Nor shall I wash the noble Hizdahr’s noble feet.”
“Magnificence, you do not understand,” protested Reznak. “The washing of the feet is hallowed by tradition. It signifies that you shall be your husband’s handmaid" [...]
She rose. "If my husband wishes me to wash his feet, he must first wash mine."
————
Daenerys Targaryen eased herself onto the chair's plush velvet seat, and Hizdahr zo Loraq went to his knees, unlaced her sandals, and washed her feet whilst fifty eunuchs sang and ten thousand eyes looked on. Hand in hand, they followed the Green Grace inside the temple.
ghiscari by galaatear
The woman in the front center is how I picture Qezza of the Pyramid of Galare, if she were to return to Meereen, in Strangers Again.
Galazza Galare is the Green Grace, Ghiscari high priestess of the Temple of Graces in Meereen.
Galazza is described as tall and graceful, despite being in her eighties. She has white hair and parchment skin, but the years have not clouded her piercing green eyes. Daenerys Targaryen thinks that they are eyes full of sadness and wisdom. According to her position as Green Grace, she wears a bright green silk veil that covers her entire face except her eyes. She has a soft and friendly voice.
Galazza becomes one of Daenerys Targaryen's most important advisers, being the voice of peace and tolerance. She advises reopening the fighting arenas to please the gods. Two of her relatives, Grazdar and Qezza, become Daenerys Targaryen's cupbearers. Galazza suggests that Daenerys marry Hizdahr zo Loraq to end the killings and find peace. The Green Grace visits Daenerys with three blue graces to inform her of the arrival of a refugee from Astapor with symptoms of bloody cholerin.
The green grace opposes the wedding being celebrated according to the rites of Westeros. It is Galazza herself who performs the marriage rites in the Temple of Graces.
When Daenerys disappears and Barristan Selmy takes control of Meereen on behalf of the queen, she sends Galazza to Yunkai to offer peace and gold terms for the three hostages the Yunkios were holding. Galazza returns to report that Yunkai has rejected the offer, and that the only price they will accept will be the death of the dragons. She tells him that Daenerys is dead, and that she should also let her dragons die.

Dragon Queen of Meereen
“Meereen was not her home, and never would be. It was a city of strange men with strange gods and stranger hair, of slavers wrapped in fringed tokars, where grace was earned through whoring, butchery was art, and dog was a delicacy. Meereen would always be the Harpy's city, and Daenerys could not be a harpy.” Daenerys Targaryen
The first victim murdered by the Sons of the Harpy is brought to Daenerys at the Great Pyramid.
Tokar for the Green Grace of Meereen, Galazza Galare.
