Organic vs Non Organic Coffee
Organic vs non organic coffee comes down to how the beans are grown and what this means for you, your health, and the planet. Organic coffee is grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, or GMOs—only natural pest control methods are used, including compost and shade-grown trees. That results in cleaner beans with more antioxidants (up to 27 percent more polyphenols) and a cleaner, bolder flavor, as well as environmental gains like less chemical runoff and carbon sequestration. Non-organic (also known as conventional) coffee is grown with significant amounts of heavy chemicals to produce higher yields at lower costs, but those can be left over in trace amounts (most get burned off in roasting). Organic is often more expensive and lower-yielding, but many prefer it for a healthier, environmentally friendly cup. Choose the one that best matches your values!
