Leaf Not Leaf. Amblycorypha oblongifolia, Oblong-winged katydid. A superb leaf mimic. Makes sense. It lives in vegetation and eats leaves and presumably is very tasty the males also announce themselves over and over which can't diminish predation. This species lives in my garden and seems to be found of the understory of forests (I am surrounded on 3 sides by forest: the other side is horses). The Big Katydid season has officially started. Last night I had my first Northern True Katydid, which essentially never stops calling. Good thing it doesn't know how to use smart phones or we would be in big trouble. Sierra Williams was photographer.
