u should tell me abt ur Strange Machines(tm). what do they do......... and yes this is a free invitation to also just yap abt whatever u want
LETS FUCKING GOOOOO
Ok so. I am going to assume you have absorbed vague knowledge of gtnh through my yapping. Minecraft modpack. Gregtech is the main mod it's centred around. It is divided into tiers of technology, and 2.9 came out so I restarted and am in steam age.
Also. Sorry this went on for a while 😭 you do not have to read all of rhis. It's late and I'm in a yapping mood
So in steam age I think they've finally completed the full selection of steam multiblocks? 2.9 is the multiblock update, they changed a bunch of designs to move away from the generic 3x3 cube multiblock. I used the steam grinder (macerator) in my last world and it was rlly good so I'm building more this time
However. They are quite expensive at this point in the game, and once it gets to the point where they aren't expensive, they are often made redundant. So I will not be making all of them, and gotta pick them. I have made 3 out of the 4 I intend to make. Steam fuser (alloy smelter, it does what the name says, I'm mostly using it for bronze right now BC bronze is the main material of steam age), steam furnace (? Is that its name? But it is a furnace), steam grinder (macerator) and steam centrifuge I think (this is the one that hasn't been made yet).
So the thing with steam machines is they have a lot of great perks. First, they do up to 8 parallels. So if a recipe runs for 16 seconds it'll take 16 seconds, but it will do 8 at once (or a number you set, which you might reduce like I am because it uses more steam with more parallels and my pipes don't have enough throughput to keep up with all 8 parallels for the fuser). They also have a steam discount, so it uses less steam than running 8 singleblock alloy smelters alongside each other would. Plus it has a time discount. So it's quicker.
Basically theyre great BUT. they only run recipes up to LV (low voltage) tier. So this is where my choosing comes in.
In my previous world, I was in EV and still hasn't upgraded my LV alloy smelter. I probably should've. But I was managing. So obviously, it's fine to use what's essentially a mega upgraded version of that! And very beneficial! Plus it made the other ones quicker BC I needed all that bronze.
For the furnace, it gets made redundant in HV by the multi smelter. But I'm lazy. I was in EV and still hadn't made one. I had the railcraft (another mod in the pack) version of the steam furnace, which has been replaced by this, and it's better cause of all the multi benefits + more compatible with other Greg stuff.
And then for grinder, macerating is usually an LV recipe and it's pointless to even make another macerator for anything other than speed until HV, because in HV you make a macerator that gives you byproducts for better ore processing. But until then, and also for ores you don't need their byproducts from, this is great. Same with centrifuging, EXCEPT you get centrifuging byproducts I believe ? Centrifuging and macerating feed into each other and I could make very basic ore proc to run in the background by hooking them up together. With the centrifuge, Ill still have to make one in MV (medium voltage), because ruby juice line involves a liquid and you cant centrifuge liquids in the steam multi. It also might be an MV recipe but I can't remember
Now for why I DIDNT pick some others. Ore washing. There's two of these I think? Bruh I never made a single ore washer, simple or otherwise. (One just washes one gives byproducts). Just didn't see the point until I made proper ore proc in late EV.
As for the mixer. I considered this. After all, mixing is very slow. BUT. the tier locking. You see a lot of recipes that I use a lot of in the mixed are MV or HV. Since the steam multi can't do anything past LV, it makes it kind of pointless. I can still make soldering alloy or whatever in the alloy smelter. Anything else will be fine in the singleblock mixer.
As for compressor and extractor...I just couldn't be assed. Yeah they're painfully slow but I just don't care enough. I don't use it enough to be warranted. By the time I need an extractor properly (when glow flower processing needs to speed up) I should probably make the electric multiblock
Oh and forge hammer. I did actually consider this. BC right now I'm using it to get a better ratio making plates. So originally you use the hammer tool (NOT the same as the mining hammer that I ran out of durability with in the nether and had to dig through nethwrack by hand) to whack two ingots into one plate. Forge hammer does 3 ingot into two plate! Better. But. The second machine I ever make in LV is the vending machine. Which turns one ingot into one plate. It's priority number two after the wiremill, and honestly they're kinda equal priority, because forge hammer still sucks. The only other thing I use it for is crushed ore to impure ore, because the macerator is slow...but I just solved that issue. So.
ive never made this one before. steam fuser. the only multis ive ever made are the old railcraft steam furnace, and the grinder. grinder was worth it, furnace was worth it, so i assume they will be too. unfortunately ive jsut discovered that i shouldve used bigger pipes. but this will make it easier to replace them
