Lost in New York City
For: hiddeninthunder Author: grelluffandwillsprout Pairings/Character: Grell Sutcliff Warnings: none Prompt: Grell getting lost in the city and being adopted by a group of kids Author’s Notes: I hope you enjoy it! <3
“Oh, dear, it seems like I’ve gotten myself into quite the predicament,” Grell mused, walking under a street lamp and pulling a map from his pocket. “I volunteer for a temporary transfer to New York City, and now I can’t even find the way back to my own apartment!”
Grell sighed irritably as he unfolded the map and held it under the flickering amber light. “Honestly, this place is like a maze,” he grumbled. “I don’t know how the reapers here find their way around-“
“Excuse me, are you lost?”
Grell turned around and came face-to-face with three children of about eleven or twelve, two boys flanking a girl. The girl wore a white button-down shirt, a black pleated skirt, and black loafers. The two boys wore similar outfits to their female companion, except they wore black trousers instead of a skirt.
“Are you lost?” the girl asked. “It’s alright if you are, even the natives get lost every once in awhile.”
“Yes, I am quite lost,” Grell replied. “Although my apartment is quite far off from what my map tells me.”
“You can stay with us for tonight,” the boy on the right offered.
“Then we can help you find your apartment in the morning,” the left boy finished.
Grell considered it for a moment, then finally said, “I don’t see why not. Where do you three live?”
The girl, who seemed to be the ringleader of the group, went up ahead and beckoned for Grell to follow her. “Our house is this way, just follow me!”
As the four of them walked, Grell was bombarded with questions by the second boy (the first one didn’t seem very inclined to talk):
“Why do you have a chainsaw?”
“Are you a boy or a girl?”
“Why are you wearing so much red?”
“I’m Abraham, by the way,” the second boy finally told Grell, before pointing to the first boy and then the girl. “He’s Gabriel, and she’s Jamie. We work at the Fifth Avenue Hotel.”
“Are you all siblings?” Grell inquired. “Do your parents work at the hotel?”
“We’re here!” Jamie called, standing before the hotel. “This is one of the best hotels in New York City.”
Jamie pushed open the doors and skipped up to the front desk as Grell and the two boys followed behind her. As they approached the front desk, Grell saw a tired-looking woman sitting behind it. She had dark rings under her eyes, and looked up to face Grell, a kind but tired smile crossing her face.
“Well, hello there!” she greeted Grell as energetically as she was able. “Jamie says you need a place to stay for the night. I’m Cath. What’s your name?”
“Grell Sutcliff, deadly efficient grim reaper at your service!”
A confused expression flickered across Cath’s face, but she didn’t comment on it as she slid a key across the table towards Grell. “Your room is 1203, on the third floor. Jamie and Gabriel will take you, I need to talk with Abraham for a bit.”’
“Sure, Mom,” Abraham replied as he went behind the counter with his mother. Gabriel tugged on Grell’s coat and beckoned for the red reaper to follow him and Jamie. The three of them eventually reached Grell’s room, and the two children left Grell to his own devices.
“There’s a room service bell in your room if you need anything,” Jamie explained. “We’ll send someone up as soon as possible. Enjoy your stay!” Grell watched for a moment as Jamie and Gabriel walked down the hallway, before entering his room and retiring for the night.
The next morning, Grell went down to the lobby and asked for directions back to his apartment building.
“…and you make another left turn, and the building should be on your left,” Abraham finished, writing down the instructions on some hotel stationery, with Jamie and Gabriel looking over his shoulder. The three children looked up at Grell with curious eyes.
“Are you sure you can’t stay?” Jamie asked, placing the quill into the inkwell for the time being. “We really liked having you around. Especially Abraham, even if he didn’t show it.”
“I’m afraid not. My boss can be quite irritable if I don’t show up to work on time,” Grell replied apologetically.
“We understand,” Abraham nodded. “Just know that you’re always welcome at the Fifth Avenue Hotel.”
Grell nodded, a smile on his face as he exited through the double doors, with the three children waving enthusiastically after him.
Uuuugh part 3 was sad but so gooood. Stop pulling on my heartstrings, mate. Love your blog, and give the Driver twins my love <3
Aw, I wouldn’t call it sad. Sometimes uncomfortable situations happen and people get their feelings hurt. They’re adults, and it’s not like it’s the end of their friendship or anything. If it helps, you can imagine an alternate version where the last few pages are just them violently making out.
I’ll pass the love along.
Can you recommend any other anime? I finished the anime and saw the movie, and none of my friends watch anime, so I'm kinda stuck for now. Sorry for bothering you! ^u^;
I guess that depends on what exactly you’re looking for or what genres you like. Here are some of my favorites. Other than those I’ve also watched and liked Another, Ergo Proxy, K, D.Gray-Man,… Maybe you’ll find something among those. :)
Remember that one-shot you wrote where the reader is drunk and questions Sebastian's love for them because he's a demon? Can you do something similar except with Grell (male pronouns), and the reader (fem. pronouns) questions Grell's love for them because he's always flirting with Sebastian, William, and basically every handsome guy he sees? Thank yooou!! ^^
Soft AAAAAAAAAAA <3
Last call was shouted out quite a while ago, and seeing as Grell was only a little tipsy – whereas you were stumble-over-yourself drunk – he had to drag you home. The fact that he complained the entire time just served to intensify the buzzing thoughts in your head. It isn’t like he hasn’t bitched about your behavior before, but tonight, his whining coupled with your overindulgence is leading to some pretty heavy feelings trying to smother you.
Is his heart as much yours as yours is his?
Sometimes you’re not sure. Tonight that doubt is draped over you like a thick blanket, refusing to let you breathe.
When you decide to speak up, Grell is actually asleep. You’re both in bed, and despite the fact that you’re still very much intoxicated, you haven’t been able to rest. It’s probably not going to happen at all until you quiet all the noise in your mind. Against your better judgment you reach over and grab the redhead’s shoulder before starting to shake. Gently at first, then more vigorously when he isn’t waking up. Finally his eyes snap open, just as brilliantly green as they are behind his glasses. “(Y/N)? Just what the ruddy hell do you think you’re doing?!” he grumbles, throwing an arm over his eyes. “Do you know what time it is? I’m trying to sleep, and you should be, too!”
“Grell…” The voice coming from your lips is so soft and subdued that you have to remind yourself it’s yours. “D’y’l’veme?”
A strangled growl makes its way up out of his throat, and he refuses to move his arm. “What is that… do I love you…? What kind of a stupid question is that? We’re sharing a bed. The same bed we share every night, and have for… what has it been? Two years now? And you have to ask me if I love you?”
You can feel your face flushing. Grell is a little harsh sometimes, but… did he really have to put it like that? It’s like he can’t tell that you’re massively insecure right now. Even though it’s probably just the alcohol making you brave enough to ramble about it, this has been something that’s been bothering you for a while now. “… Mhm.”
“Well, why? You don’t trust me or something?” He rolls over so that his back is facing you. “I’m not fooling around onyou, if that’s what you’re asking. Even I’m not that much of a dolt.”
For a moment you stay silent, then you slowly wrap your arms around his waist and nuzzle against his shoulder. “Y’realw’ysfl’rtin’ wit’ p’ple. Men. H’nds’mem’n. Sebas – ast’n, ‘n’ Will, ‘n’… d’n’t y’ flirt w’R’nnie once, too? I-It’s j’st…” All those drinks you had tonight are making a reappearance in the form of tears, because you usually don’t cry easily. “If y’love me, why d’ya act like y’drath’r be with th’m…? Somet’mes it seems like y’ren’even int’ wom’n…”
The next thing he lets out is a loud sigh. After that, he rolls back over and presses his nose against yours. “Maybe you’re the dolt. You know me; if I want something, I go for it. Really go for it. Don’t you think if I truly wanted one of them, I’d have already broken it off with you to chase after them? I’m a lot of things, darling, but I’m not someone who strings another person along. And I certainly do not settle.”
You’re about to speak up when he captures your lips in an instant, ensuring that you can’t argue with him. “Believe me,” he murmurs against your skin, “if I didn’t love you, you would know it. That – that flirting I do, it’s just… like a game for me. It’s not anything serious.” His fingers run over your hair, and his eyes fall closed. “I might play around with them every so often, but I always go home with you, don’t I?”
“Mmmm…” Everything he’s doing is just making you tired. Although you still feel a little unsure, you’re too tired now to debate it any further. For now, you’ll just believe that, yes, he does love you. “You do.”
“Good girl.” He tucks his chin up against the top of your head, slipping an arm up against your shoulder blades. “Now go to sleep. You’re still drunk, and I daresay I’m going to have to repeat every single word I just said to you over breakfast.”
