Get to Know my Character: 1 3 4 8 27 35 47-50 (OC is your choice :) )
Hmmmm I think I’ll go with Grennt! I haven’t talked much about him, but he’s Dargon’s first and closest friend and ally (after wife Gwinletta, of course)
What does your character’s name mean? Did you pick it for the symbolism, or did you just like the way it sounded? I made the name up lol; It’s an ancient, native word for obsidian. His kingdom was devastated by a volcanic eruption nearly a century ago; his father was the first in two generations to return to reclaim and rebuild the kingdom after his great-grandparents took shelter at the castle his great-grandmother had grown up in, and Grennt is continuing the process of restoration.
What would be their favorite physical trait about themselves? Grennt is youthful-looking for his nearly 45 years of age.
What are their favorite traits about their lover? (one psychological and one physical) Grennt’s husband is an officer of his army, and Grennt is permanently smitten with his husband’s perseverance; physically, his husband has hooded, bright blue eyes that are very calming despite how serious he always looks.
What is, perhaps, their biggest flaw? Are they aware of this or oblivious to it? Grennt is willing to give second chances a bit too often; and he’s been criticized for this before. Yet, if the second chance is broken, he does move on and refuse to be taken advantage of. He is very aware of this, but he would rather keep peace and offer a helping hand as much as possible, rather than cut all ties over something that could be easily fixed.
If your character was going to get arrested, what would be the most likely reason for it? Probably got carried away defending his friend, Dargon, or his marriage was discovered by other royals. Publicly, Grennt appears to be married to the woman he was betrothed to at a young age, but both eventually knew he wasn’t invested due to his sexuality. They agreed, for their safety, to appear married and provide one heir. Grennt officially married his now-husband, and the queen married one of Grennt’s former advisors. However, they all know if the secret gets out, many other kingdoms would be outraged, and since it is kept under wraps, it could be classified as falsification of royal commitments (Especially as their son was legally conceived out of wedlock). Only two other royal couples know of the marriage.
Is your character afraid of death? If they got to choose how to die, how would they want to go? Grennt is scared of an early death. If he had to go early, he would definitely hope to go in his sleep.
Is your character outgoing? Would they be the leader of the friend group, or the quiet one that gets dragged along? Grennt isn’t the most outgoing, but is chatty and benevolent. If he’s with Dargon, he’s the leader (He, Gwinletta, and Undrell have been Dargon’s main tutors on royal living and etiquette); if he’s with other royals he tends to get dragged along.
Is there anything in particular that would ignite your character’s jealousy? Or does your character not get envious? Grennt doesn’t experience much jealousy; he’s pretty much got everything he could want lol
What is something that your character has nightmares about? Are these frequent? Do they heavily affect your character’s mood? Being an ineffectual king and leader, also the secrecy of his marriage often brings bad dreams of being found out. While not frequent nightmares, they’re often ones that keep him up for the rest of the night. These thoughts are on his mind at all times, and he does his best to keep them from hindering his ability to rule.
If your character confessed love to their crush, boyfriend, girlfriend, etc, what would they say? ‘my parents’ choice of marriage was for the benefit of my future children and kingdom; but this choice is for the benefit of my heart.’
Redo of Grennt, King of Karntherin
sketches of the Karntherin family for Grennt’s birthday! Grennt’s undergone a change since his preliminary sketches, but everyone was looking so homogeneous, variation was needed, although Veluthe kind of resembles Rinwey now :T Time to keep practicing.
Current wip!!
King Grennt of Karntherin
Me, thinking about how Veluthe, a broken and battle scarred former captain moved to Karntherin to retire peacefully-
and ended up becoming the affections of the local single dad king who could have anyone but only had eyes for him
I just remembered tomorrow is another birthday!!! It's time for King Grennt to celebrate!
Grennt was the first ally and friend Dargon really had, and he's an important part of Olthandrynn's extended family; he rules Karntherin with his friend (and pretend wife) Queen Desta, with whom he has one son with, Prince Branndt. For his birthday he always enjoys the company of them, his (secret) husband Veluthe, and Desta's husband, Culpernathe (they're all close; and Veluthe and Culper are basically extra dads to Branndt)
I'm not sure what my schedule is going to be tomorrow; I might be visiting my hometown, but I do want to celebrate! So feel free fromto night to Tuesday to send in questions for Grennt!
