finally, finally remessaged my hairdresser about sorting my hair out. i have a good 5 inches or maybe a bit more of new growth and i need to chop a chunk of this dye out so i can actually see what I'm going to look like with what's underneath. i'm really hoping she has space before this hen in a couple of weeks otherwise i'm doing dutch braids for the full weekend.

i'm about 6 months into growing out my dye and some observations on the experience:

there's still a lot of my original brunette under there

there's a lot of grey too but not as much as i maybe first thought 6 months ago

the natural blonde highlights around my hairline are lightening to grey and there's a particular patch just above my left temple that i think will look really nice once it all grows out

the section of hair above my left ear that I first noticed at uni has bloomed and will be quite a distinctive stripe when everything grows out

there's a somewhat matching stripe above my right ear as well

the demarcation line is about 4 inches at this point which isn't bad. it's more noticeable when i have my hair down so i've been braiding it back a lot more

some days i'm more self conscious about it than others but if anyone else has opinions on it then they've kept them to themselves

i'm still on the fence about getting a grey blend. it's a lot of money and still requires maintenance. it might look good at first but i've not seen enough fades or grow outs to know how something like that is going to look 8 weeks down the line and i don't want to feel like i'm starting from scratch again.

generally i have pretty mixed feelings about the whole thing. it's interesting to watch from an abstract experimental point of view but also it looks kind of naff right now. it's in a "it's going to get worse before it gets better" state and i'm going to need to lump it either way since there's no going back to what it was like before.

I fronted after stormcloud apparently performed an ill advised time skip (nap) and now everyone is gone to bed or busy but here I am. Awake and alone. I'd much rather spectate someone or hover around a social group but I can't emphasize enough how asleep and not here everyone is now.
