The last day of our trek had arrived, unbelievable. It always goes so quickly :'(. We were excited for the day though, which would involve views of the Grey Glacier from the trails and then by boat! The whole group was first in the queue for breakfast by 6.50am, just as well when we saw that by 7am the queue went out the door. It meant that we got a good early start to the trek, and could take our time as we made our way along the last trail towards the glacier. The wind picked up as we drew near, and turned much colder as the glacier and its icebergs came into view. Once we hit the beach to wait for the boat we got out our winter layers and sat in the sun as we watched the vessel come in to land on the sand. The boat took us right up close to the icebergs and the glacier and we headed out on deck (wearing our hilarious orange life jackets) to get a closer look at the beautiful dense blue of the ice. When we couldn't take the cold any longer, we headed back inside and indulged in the complimentary Pisco Sour drinks that the bar gave out, served over ice calvings from the glacier! It was just a short walk to the minivan once we alighted on the other side of the lake, and that was it: the W Trek was done. An incredible experience, a difficult trek, and stunning scenery along the way. Olli and I said our goodbyes and exchanged details with everyone (well, everyone apart from Carla and Olaf who had happily been dropped off half way through the drive back to Puerto Natales) and then headed back to Hostel Amerindia where we did another epic repack of our bags. Not bad going when all we wanted to do was flop! But we had a restaurant reservation for Aldea at 7.30pm and a super-early bus the next morning so we knew that we had to just get it done. The dinner lived up to expectations: amazing ceviche, lamb, seafood curry and complementary wine. We were beaming with happiness that we were just the two of us again, and enjoyed a private dinner and a night sleeping in a bed made for two!
