Grilled figs recipe
Figs are in season in South Africa and they bring back fond memories of my childhood.
I haven’t eaten them since and for some reason I remembered the taste and thought it a great idea to add to my son’s birthday party menu. Many people aren’t fond of the fruit so I thought I’d add a savory twist to it. A party hit! [caption id="attachment_1737" align="alignnone" width="620"] Figs and feta drizzled with syrup[/caption] [recipe title="Grilled figs recipe" servings="5" time="10 minutes" difficulty="easy"] I used: 1 pack Mediterranean figs (+/- 10-12) Danish style Feta (or goats cheese) Freshly ground black pepper Drizzle of syrup (honey would be preferable) Drizzle of good olive oil My method:
Heat griddle pan and drizzle lightly with olive oil.
Slice figs in half and when your pan is slightly smokey place figs in pan, cut side down.
When char marks form, remove the figs and place on a platter, charred side up.
Break off pieces of cheese and place on top of figs.
Sprinkle with black pepper.
Drizzle with syrup.

Here's a quick and easy recipe for dinner-for-two in a hurry. It can be prepared the night before and left to marinate in the fridge. It can also be prepped half an hour before-hand. Nonetheless its quick, simple, easy and super yummy as well. The best part; you can use whatever veggies you have in the fridge! I used: 500g lamb cubes 4 heaped tablespoons of light soy 1 teaspoon dark soy 2 tablespoons golden syrup 1 tablespoon oil 1 teaspoon ginger, garlic and chilli paste a handful of coriander chopped black pepper to taste green pepper cut into chunks butternut cut into cubes and steamed for 10 minutes onion cut into chunks wooden skewers soaked in water (for an Hawaiian variation one can opt for pineapple cubes and mushrooms) My method: Place meat into a dish and combine the soy, golden syrup, oil, ginger paste mix, coriander and season with black pepper. Mix through ingredients and leave in the fridge to marinate. After half an hour start assembling the skewers. There's no particular order, I do as follows: onion, meat, green pepper, butternut. Repeat. Heat your pan or griddle pan and drizzle lightly with your preference of oil. When pan becomes smokey add skewers and turn down the heat. Turn each side after two minutes a turn and remove when meat is cooked and veggies are tender. Approximately 10 - 15minutes. Makes 4 large or 8 mini kebabs. Enjoy!
