I think it’s pretty shitty of rooster teeth to use the grimmons ship name to promote their new series when they clearly have no intention of making the relationship actually canon. at best it makes them seem very tone deaf ‘look guys! we said the thing you use and like we are so tongue-in-cheek and plugged-in to fandom! :)‘ and at worst very blunt about how much they just want to continue throwing out queerbait breadcrumbs and nothing else. considering this type of thing has been going on for years, it’s the latter.

ship names in general are a fandom thing, and I am not against canon using them per se. but honestly, using it to pretend like they support a non-canon queer ship despite refusing to ever make it an actual couple doesn’t sit right by me. outright labeling them as a ship with no intention of following through when they’ve been pulling a ‘no homo’ on it for years is disingenuous, mocking and manipulative.

they’re doing exactly what they and so many other creators and companies have done before: throw little references and lines at fandom, which certain people can read into and others can ignore easily, which certain people will see meaning in and others will just consider a joke. this way they don’t alienate any potential viewer. does it make sense comercially speaking? yes. is it still shitty? yes.

basically: @roosterteeth if you wanna use grimmons, you make it canon. otherwise it’s not yours. it’s ours, and we are tired of being jerked around. what you’re doing is queerbaiting 101.
