I canāt figure out how to rotate it but here ya go
So i wrote/ entered a slam poem into my schools poetry contest..
A persons beauty cannot be measured on a scale from 1 to 10 because measuring a persons beauty is like measuring their worth it can not be done. You see, once we assign a person a number that number becomes a label and that label becomes a barrier, And lord knows we don't need anymore barriers.
FREAK, JOCK PREP we don't need anymore barriers REBEL, NERD, FAT. We don't need anymore barriers STOP
Stop before our younger generation becomes more obsessed with a number on a scale than a number on a report card. Stop Before that innocent little girl no longer thinks she is beautiful, or worth that last piece of apple pie.
Every day she wakes up feeling as though the universe is against her. As if her body was empty matter that took up unnecessary space. As if the only meaning to her existence was to slumily sit in her full size bed pondering the existence of pre-determined destiny. Stop.
She's never felt loved. Never truly felt the warm touch of a loving caretaker. Never felt as if she was somebody's one and only. Never felt like she mattered, but what she doesn't understand is that she IS matter, therefore she matters. I repeat she IS matter therefore she matters.
Stop.
Stop before your younger sister becomes more obsessed with that time she got called fat than all of the times you insisted that she was beautiful. Stop before she begins to care more about the size of her shirt than the size of her heart. Stop before your little sister begins to feel like she inst good enough for that last piece of apple pie.
You insist that she is perfect, but society would say other wise. Lost and unsure of what to do you come up with a list in your head of things for her to say every morning when she wakes up and looks at her reflection staring back at her in the mirror.
"The scars on my body do not define me. The size of my shirt does not define me. The number on a scale does not define me. I am more than a number. I am more than my diagnosis. I am beautiful within myself. I am worthy of that last (damn) piece of apple pie.
