are you an enjoyer of the d&d or do you also play it? if the latter, what kind of characters have you played? what class(es) do you like playing the most?
I do both! Tbh, I probably spend a little too much time playing, as I’ve somehow gotten myself involved in three campaigns, one of which I’m running.
I’ve played a lot of characters, largely owing to getting my start playing in Adventure League. The main things they have in common are they can do magic, and are queer, sad and/or horny.
Lander, the half-elf Archfey warlock, and my first character. He’d been on a trip with his mother and been lured into the woods by a Fey party. Ended up trapped in the Feywilds for some time, and eventually found himself in the service of the Queen of Air and Darkness. She returned him to his world as her agent, and he served her and searched for his mother until his untimely demise at the hands of some cavalry. Because of the nature of his pact, he ended up back in his Patron’s court in the Feywild, and serves her there still
Sariel/Caelynn the Hammer, probably my most damaged character, the reformed mob enforcer/trouble-shooter drow turned Oath of Redemption paladin. Deeply wounded by the loss of her mother, she left her old life behind, wandering the world and eventually washing up in a monastery. She stayed there for a decade, healing, and eventually took her Oath and returned to the world. She ended up with saving the world with her friends, though she nearly died in the process. In the epilogue of the campaign, she settled down with the party rogue, Esmera, on a farm in the countryside, to raise Es’s baby sister. She lives on in my head and my heart
Ellywick, the gnome barbarian who later got rebuilt into a druid because the we needed a healer. She was chaotic feral mess of a gnome, having been literally raised by wolves. Fun fact: I stole my name off her. Elly --> Ellie
Rowan - my current character, the trans changeling (though she generally looks like a wood elf, to match the rest of her family) Glamor Bard. I wanted to play someone who was something of an opposite to Sariel, and she’s kind of babey as a result. She’s got a big, living family, comes from money, and has had, relatively, a pretty easy life. She’s adventuring in search of her dad and herself. Rowan is also wrestling a bit with the ethical implications of her mind-controlling enchantment spells and powers.
I really enjoyed playing a paladin with Sariel. She could do very respectable damage, swinging her hammers around, and also dish out a lot of healing. Both are quite satisfying.
I like warlocks in theory, because they have a ton of roleplay potential with their pacts and invocations, but I’ve found them kind of frustrating in practice. I feel like they were designed with a much different sort of D&D than I’ve ever played, and having only two spell slots a day, as most parties I’ve played with don’t really do short rests unless they have to, really makes me want to horde them like potions in a video game
