Users can either instantly develop powers or abilities to deal with threats or their bodies dynamically learn from experience. Depending on the user's control of the power or genetic structure, the reactive effects can be permanent or temporary.

For example, after a certain situation, the user's skin may become tougher. They may display increased IQ after a difficult test or fortified emotions after a personal argument. The user may be able to read different languages after moments of looking them up or be able to withstand a constant bombardment of radiation. Some users may develop Enhanced Speed after being shot, or grow Dermal Armor, or gain the opposite power of their opponent.

In some instances, a magical object may express similar powers.

Levi Williams Nelson

18 (5), reactive adaptation

Levi is what is referred to as a miracle baby. Born to two supernatural parents, the circumstances of his conception proved too traumatic for his mother to keep him, and he was given up for adoption at birth. The single woman who adopted him dubbed him Levi; she’s had sole custody of him for the past (almost) six years, raising him in Lake Grimstone, where she’d lived before him.

Connections:

Abigail Nelson, adoptive mother ( @abigailxnelson ): Abigail adopted Levi not long after he was born, something Levi has always known and never objected to. To him, Abby is his mother. That’s as simple as it can be.

Wanted (Maybe, if anyone’s interested): Role model (someone Levi looks up to, despite all logic), best friend and/or bully.

Task 4

1.       Describe yourself in a few words. Daring, hopeful. Is there a word for ‘potentially awesome’ that isn’t just ‘potentially awesome’? Because I’m that.

2.       What are your major flaws? Probably that I’m never 100% sure what’s going to happen? Or, you know. Never 100% sure I like what does happen.

3.       What would you give your life for? Probably proving a point or, I don’t know, to look cool. I mean, I know I’m awesome, usually, and I know I can survive anything, basically, so if that goes wrong I’ll be giving my life to prove a point. Or to look cool.

4.       What is your greatest asset? I forget the word. It means I bounce back always. So – so resur – res – resilience? Never gonna let you down and all that.

5.       What would completely break you? Seriously? If my power stopped working. Then I wouldn’t be, you know. Around. Potentially awesome. One of those.

6.       How does the image you try to project differ from the image you actually project? Well I mean, I like to think I come across as, you know, confident and upbeat and all that. But I know I spend a lot of time wondering if I did whatever I just did the best way I could’ve for the best reaction. So. Probably pretty a big difference.

7.       What are you afraid of? Not being noticed, or remembered.

8.       Where would you fall on a politeness/rudeness scale? Uhh. Depends? Usually I’m pretty polite. Or if I’m not, I’m apologetic about it. That’s sort of polite, isn’t it?

9.       If you could choose a different identity, who would you pick? Uh, a superhero of some sort, obviously. Like – like Batman or Superman or maybe Wolverine.

10.   In what or whom is your greatest faith in? I have total faith in my power. I know it’s always going to keep me alive.

11.   What was the best thing in your life? Before Grimstone? Probably the freedom. I mean, mom was busy constantly, so there wasn’t a lot of ‘follow these rules’ going on.

12.   What was the worst thing in your life? Uhh. Blending into the background.

13.   What is your biggest nightmare? Uhh, well, drowning. In the nightmare it’s really cold, so much so that my face is aching, and wet and I can’t quite breathe? I’m holding my breath because I know breathing in is going to go badly, that I don’t want to do that, that it’s going to get water and I can’t breathe water, I’m only human. Sometimes I can feel people watching or there are hand son my arms and back, like I’m being held down, only that doesn’t make sense since I’m fighting the urge to gasp for air and get water so I’m underwater, right? But anyway. Yeah. I – I never get to the point where I’m breathing in water. I guess I wake up first, because I know what gills feel like and that’s not what happens. But. Anyway. It’s just a dream, right? (Hint: it’s not just a dream.)

14.   What seemingly insignificant memories stuck with you? I’m in a bed – hospital bed, I guess – and this woman is leaning over me? She touches my face, and I guess she’s checking my temperature but it feels more like she’s caressing. I don’t know. Anyway, after a moment she looks over her shoulder and says something like “It’ll work out”, and that’s it. That’s the memory.

15.   What is your secret wish? Uh, not so secret, but I wish I had more control over what my power does? Like I trust it and I know it’ll save me from whatever, but who knows what it’ll do.

16.   What is your greatest achievement? Uh. I know you’re expecting it to be something involving my power. Which. It could be that. I don’t do much else. I’m trying to control the urge to do that, I swear. Probably either the first time I got the second eye to match the first, or maybe getting the attention I wanted.

17.   What is your deepest regret? Uh. Not insisting on mom spending more time with me? I don’t know, I don’t feel like I missed out on much.

18.   What is your deepest disappointment? So my power lets me survive whatever, right? It’ll just – change my body to protect it. But when I jump off tall things, I don’t fly. Sometimes I fall slower I guess, like I’m lighter than I should be, but. No flying. And that sucks.

19.   What are you reluctant to tell people? I don’t like telling people about my mom. Or about school, I guess. There wasn’t a lot of interaction there?  I dunno. I didn’t do much.
