ian-makoâ.  Â
Whenever he was around Abby he always wondered why he disappeared so much. She was like his solid ground, she kept him grounded, but the minute he was away it was easier for him to stay gone than it was to come back, it was a vicious cycle and he had to find a way to break it. âHungry? No, not at all⊠are you?â He asked looking over at her. âThereâs no need to worry about feeding me, I promise that Iâm good for at least a few hours.â He chuckled.
âIâm holding you to that,â she said, pointing at him, narrowing her eyes in a mock-severe warning. The reluctant quirk of her lips ruined the illusion, however, so she dropped, rolling her eyes with a small smile. At his words, she pulled him to the left, away from the cafe. Her plan was forming with each step, though there were some intermediary steps still missing. âQuick,â she said. âPick a number between one and ten.â She paused abruptly, pulling on Ianâs hand to stop him. ââŠExcept the number five,â she clarified. âAnd then Iâll know what weâre doing.â
âTry to learn to let what is unfair teach you.â

ian-mako. Â
He understood exactly where she was coming from, had the roles been reversed he would be acting just the same if not worse. The thing was that with Ian understanding didnât go hand in hand with actually changing his ways. He hoped that one day he could change and at least give Abby a heads up and then maybe she could just let others know that he was okay. Ian let out a chuckle and nodded. âNext time I disappear I will do my best to find a way to get a message to you⊠maybe with smoke signal or something.â He replied. âYou do make a valid pointâŠâ before he could get much more out she was pulling him towards the door and he happily followed. âDonât you always?â Ian asked with humor in his voice. He had missed this, he had missed her and whenever he was with her it made him wonder why he stayed away for so long.
âI do always,â she replied, shooting a look over her shoulder at the boy who was gone more often than there. It took all of her willpower not to stick her tongue out in protest ( or spite ), but somehow, she managed to do just that. âYouâre not hungry, are you?â That would put a kink in the plan that was starting to form for certain, but since she was figuring it out on the fly, she supposed she could pencil it in. âIf you are, we should eat before.â She stopped, ready to pull him one way or the other: the cafe, or off to whatever half-baked adventure sheâd started to lay out.Â
ian-mako.Â
He was trying hard not to laugh at her reaction because while he knew that it was somewhat of an exaggeration, he also knew that he should have reached out and not just disappeared. The thing was that Ian wasnât used to having to tell people that he was okay, he wasnât used to people caring. The male let out a sigh and gave her his best innocent smile. âForgive me? I promise to make it up to you if you do.â He gave her hand a gentle squeeze and pulled her towards him to kiss the top of her head. âI did miss you and I am sorry for just disappearing.â He told her once his lips left the top of her head. âI was thinking maybe the grotto or we could do something on land⊠a hike or bowling.â He shrugged. âI just want to spend time with you.â
She wanted to remain angry at him, if only for the principle of the matter. It wasnât the first time Ian had just GHOSTED, and she figured it wouldnât be the last. It sort of sucked when it was happening, but Abby supposed that she was used to it. Her stubborn streak wanted her to hang on, and she grumbled a bit when he pulled her in and placed a messy kiss on top of her head. âNext time, just send like a ghost emoji or something,â she mumbled. âI donât have to see you every day, you know. You donât even have to explain.â Somewhat mollified after sheâd said her peace, Abby rolled her eyes, shaking her head. âThe grotto? This time of year? Itâs crawling with everyone.â Most places were crawling with everyone: there were no secret spaces in a town full of mostly-bored people. Letting out a dramatic huff, Abby started pulling Ian. âWell, come on, then. Looks like Iâll have to save the day on this one.âÂ
austinxfoster.
âYouâre out late tonight.â His tone is low, rough with distrust and straight to the point. Eyes fare similarly, dark as the the trees encasing the pair and stained in apprehension. âI was heading for a midnight walk. Is there any reason why youâre here?â
Abby turned the flashlight toward herself so Austin could actually see who he was talking to. âChill,â she said. âItâs only me. And Iâm only here because I had to find my roommate before he ended up out past curfew. Seen him around?â
winged-gabriel.
Gabriel shifted in place, in and out of her light before pausing, thinking better of it, and stepping backwards, out of the way. He was uninvited, but Aislinn was avoiding him, and. Well. Abby was Aislinnâs roommate. âIâm a victim of circumstance?â he tried, uncertainty heavy in his wavering voice. He didnât have an excuse. He had Harley and he had work and he had a lot of reading that he was doing despite not needing to, not during summer break, but that hadnât given him pause. If someone looked in his head, theyâd see thoughts tangled in knots and kept apart from his primary focus, where things like his friends problems and his notes swirled in the foreground, in and out of focus like a malfunctioning camera. âI just. Um. Aislinn told me sheâs in love with me?â
Abby kept doodling while she felt the cogs turing in Gabeâs mind. She let him come to whatever he wanted to say; after all, she had paper in front of her, and that could keep her distracted for hours. When he finally let out what heâd apparently come to say, she put the charcoal down, squinting up at him. âThatâs one of the worst kept secrets in town,â she replied, trying to bring a small amount of levity to the situation. She looked at the winged man and sighed. Aislinn was her roommate and her friend. Gabe was Aislinnâs best friend ââ and eventual love of her life, apparently. Gabe was seeing Jazmine, who had been, at one time. as close to Abby as a sister. But⊠things had changed, she guessed. âWe are tied so closely together, Gabe,â she said with a laugh. âEvery drama of yours is somehow in my life. What about us? Wanna give it a go?â
michael-lowe.
Michael took all of that in. He nodded in understanding because he really did understand. âMy powerâs like that too,â he nodded. âWell, it used to be way worse, but, now itâs more controlled, Iâve worked hard to control it. But weather seems veryâŠvery emotional, so that makes sense to me now, after you explained it.â He bit his lip, âI only have one question leftâŠwhen it rainsâŠdoes that mean youâre sad?â He knew this was a very personal question. ButâŠit was one that now concerned him, one he asked gently.Â
It was an understandable question, honestly. So she shrugged and nodded at the same time. âSometimes,â she said. âSometimes it means Iâm bored, or restless, or feeling something but donât know what. The sky isnât really an accurate mood ring⊠rain seems to ANSWER me more easily than anything else, so it means a bunch of stuff. Sad is one of them.â

Ian stood in the doorway, his blue eyes fixed on the brunette. It took her a while but she finally looked up and her words caused his smile to grow wider. âHere and there⊠mostly there.â He said as he walked further in to the room. âAnd by here and there I mean home and the training facility. Come on, we need to get out.â Ian said extending his hand out at her.Â
âChrissakes, Ian,â Abby replied, closing her notebook and putting her charcoal pencil on top. âOr maybe I should call you Houdini.â She sighed, looking down at his hand, and wanting to take it immediately, because who knew when heâd show up again? âDo I need to reintroduce myself? Iâm Abby. Nelson, if you donât remember.â Her arms folded in front of her chest, holding herself back from just jumping back up. âSeriously, Ian. The least you could do is call a girl, you know?â She dropped her voice as low as it would go. âSup, Babe. Yeah, Iâm still alive, no need to worry. Oh, you checked the hospitals? No need for that, Mamacita. I just need some me time or whatever.â Only after sheâd finished her lecture did she take his hand. âAnything in mind?â
