Lemon linguistics

So turns out what gringos call limes might've been them getting confused about taití-lemons, which are green lemons. They look like limes but still taste sour like lemons. And what we Brazilians call limes looks almost the same but has a bitter-sweet taste. These are our limes 👇

There are many types of lemons because citrus fruits are whores. The yellow lemons you gringos know best are sicilian lemons. Tahiti lemons are our green ones. We even have a couple orange lemons (china lemon and cravo lemon) but you would know they're not oranges cause they taste completely different. Oranges are way sweeter, lemon is the kind of sour that turns your face inside out.

So, whenever you see a Brazilian recipe calling for limes, double-check if it isn't actually for tahiti lemons! Like caipirinha. Then you gotta use lemons, your yellow ones will be the right fit instead of a lime!

I found this out because of a youtube reel saying Brazilians make lemonade with limes and every Brazilian in the comment was confused.

I'm still not sure what a gringo lime is and what it tastes like. Maybe tahiti lemons actually do translate to lime in English, and what we call limes translates to something else.
