From the staff he’s waving around in the poster I will guess some sort of leveling rod. It doesn’t look like a groma but I want it to be a groma.

Because if he rides it like a witches broom the cross section can spin like a propeller, and he could take off the plumb lines and whip them around like Indiana Jones.
