Ok since I'm in a ranting mood I'm gonna just rant about some other stuff I don't get that maybe you can help me with. Why do people get a dog that is typically a low grooming maintenance breed and insist on shaving it? I have (so so so many but I'm just going to talk about these) 2 recent incidents: 1. Customer makes an appointment, checks-in, and signs all paperwork in the grooming salon for her shar-pei to get a basic bath. Upon call the customer for pick up, she asks if we can give her dog a haircut. (First of all you don't wait until we have finished your dog and then ask if it can get a haircut it doesn't work like that but disregarding that...) Me: -thoroughly confused- we don't normally give haircuts to shar-pei's... Customer: her hair is getting long Me: what do you want trimmed? C: oh you... don't normally do that? Me: No. C: ok nevermind Like what??? I don't understand 2. Overhearing my coworker making an appointment for a customer over the phone: "What kind of dog do you have? A French bulldog ok so just a bath right? You want a haircut? What do you want trimmed?? We don't normally give haircuts to French bulldogs, and if you do shave them, they will have lots of issues with their coat. Ok so you wanna cancel? Ok thank you!" Apparently the customer said the dog's hair was getting long (HAVE YOU PEOPLE EVER SEEN A DOG???) A French bulldog mind you Also, 6 months old ???? ??????????? ?? ???

Angry rambling time here - Nothing annoys me more, being in the pet grooming industry, than people with long hair dogs who get them cut or shaved. Especially people with long hair variants of short hair dogs. Golden retrievers, long-haired chihuahuas, long-haired dachshunds, etc. Sure, it is definitely easy money. Its not hard. In fact, it takes no time at all. But I get so irrationally angry when customers want me to trim their dog up or shave them down, like, this is how the dog is supposed to look. You knew that when you got it. Cutting the hair doesn't suddenly make it shed less. In fact, I would rather have the long hairs shedding than the sharp little barbs that shaving leaves behind stabbing me in the hand every time I pet the dog. I put up with a lot of crap from ignorant dog owners every day but this is the big one that annoys me. Reason for rant - customer has a long-haired chihuahua, she gets him fully shaved down every six weeks, he dies at 12 years old. She gets another dog. It is also a long hair chihuahua. She also asks for him to be shaved down. Lady, just fucking get a chihuahua! Seriously!
