Irina Odoyevtseva, 20th Century Russian Poetry: Silver and Steel; from ‘Ground Glass’, tr. Bradley Jordan
A crack in time had been made by the click of a shutter, through which I could peer into a world that had vanished. This fact exceeded my grasp, but it excited my emotions. The following day I took the photograph into the open air and pinned it to the clapboards on one side of the house. I saw it clearly on the ground glass before the shutter clicked. Was it in this way I hoped to postpone what was vanishing? A simpler ritual of survival would be hard to imagine. By stopping time I hoped to suspend mortality.

A little ground glass comparison. This is a pretty rough test, but I positioned my Shen Hao next to my Standard 4x5 and used the same lens, wide open. I photographed the back of each camera using the same settings on my Nikon d7000 - iso 200, F5.6, 1/60. There is, according to my eye and the data, no significant difference in brightness or quality between the two.
