Headcanon , hinted raywood :
Ray leaving the crew the first time. He hasn't been there but maybe a year or so.
It's impulsive and not thought through. He leaves while the others are out. He can't bring himself to tell them he's going to. So he slips out leaving only a note.
' I'm sorry. Don't look for me.'
Of course when the note is found an argument breaks out. The crew is torn between looking for him or letting the boy be.
Ryan storms out and tracks him down in a matter of hours. He finds in a shitty apartment on the other side of town. When he knocks on the door Ray let's him in without question. They sit in silence. Ryan is angry and hurt. His skull mask covers his expressions.
Ray is obviously hurting.
Ray finally takes a shaky breath and explains himself. He explains that he was losing faith in himself. That he was scared of bringing the crew down. That he loved them all way to much to let himself be a casualty.
Ryan wants to interject. Tell him to shut up and he needs to come home. But he's silent and listens. When Ray is finally done. He's on verge of tears.
Ryan gets up and pulls the boy into a hug. Ray hugs him back and cries onto the larger man. Fear and anxiety finally getting the better of him.
They go to one of Ryan's safe houses.
Ryan finally calms the boy down. Tells him to come back to the crew and that next time he feels this way- to talk to someone. Him even. Ray falls asleep to next Ryan that night. They go back to the penthouse the next day.
Everyone can tell by the look on Ryan's face not to ask questions. So they don't. Ryan leads Ray to his bedroom. After that the pair is much closer. Nearly inseparable.
