Dudes, I want to draw your attention to Guardian Shield. This man is a part of a First-Response neighborhood watch team from Beaverton/Oregon - and he’s decked out in spandex and other good stuff. They routinely dress up in super heroic garb and patrol the late night streets of our cities, towns, and local communities keeping them safe. If they can be in the right place at the right time to intervene and protect someone from possible danger, deter a crime from happening, or at the very least be a friend to someone in need...Mission Accomplished.
“Tired of seeing videos and reading news articles of citizens being publicly assaulted and bystanders either recording the act to post it later on the internet or ignoring it altogether and doing nothing. Not on my watch.” - Guardian Shield
Personal thoughts: This seems ridiculous at first. Silly. Bizarre. A superhero LARP at night? But then I got to thinking. The intentions are good. This is not a game. This is being treated as serious as possible. They’ll be outside for hours on end and only want to do what they consider best for their community. And from what I can read, they will not actively engage in combat if they can help it. They’ll step in where other bystanders do not and they’ll call 911 - and are only equipped to deal with a dangerous situation as a last resort, not as a response. Guardian Shield seems to have started this whole idea and quite honestly, I don’t think it’s all too silly. It’s good to have a neighborhood watch team, so whether you’re Mary-Beth from down the road or The Crockpot Crusader, I think all that matters in the end is safety.
