A little fun background: Harada (the Lancer here) was once mocked by a group of higher ranked men who said something like 'he couldn't even commit seppuku right'. Harada goes 'I'll show them!'. and attempts to commit seppuku. And then failed to do so. Which I guess ended up proving them right? He'd later adapt his family crest to add a line through it, kinda showing off his attempted seppuku.

There's also an untrue story about him surviving the Boshin war (he didn't) and escaping to China where he became a mounted bandit.

I don't know much about Todo (the Avenger here) aside from that he was part of Ito Kashitaro's group, which he likely joined after the death of Yamanami, who he seemed to idolize. He also was short and one of the youngest of the Shinsengumi, though only slightly younger than Okita.
