You often say that biographers know much more than they can say and that they often hint at it. I just saw your compilation of Bob Spitz quotes and I was shocked at the way he talks about John and Paul!! What other biographers do this?
Peter Doggett:
âLennon could have abandoned the (US) immigration case and returned to Britain, and possibly even to McCartney, but that would have meant accepting that his relationship with Ono was over.â
"I tell you what, though, what he [Peter Jackson] didn't fake, and couldn't fake was John and Paul looking at each other... when John's awake in that film, which he is for most of it, they look at each other the same way they used to, and that does really make you think about if John hadn't met Yoko, what would have happened, you know?"
"In the great tradition of pantomime dames, Lennon played the leading female role of Thisbe, which allowed him some highly camp flirtation with Paul âPyramusâ McCartney."
"Literary parody was still Lennonâs inspiration in this brief âstoryâ, which according to the credits in In His Own Write was written âin conjugal with Paulâ
"What happened at the Dakota in January 1975? [...] Did she choose this moment for a reunion because the numbers were right, or was she afraid that she might lose him forever if he reunited with McCartney?"
"In mid-January 1973 Lennon and Ono quarrelled publicly at another party. âI wish I was back with Paul,â Lennon reportedly said."
âSeeing Lennon focus on Ono rather than him[Paul] was as devastating as it would have been for Cynthia Lennon to witness the couple making love.â
âHis partnership with Lennon was non-sexual, but it ran deeper than anything he had experienced with a womanâ.
Philip Norman:
"John said that no one ever hurt him the way Paul hurt him. The words suggested a far deeper emotional attachment between the two than the world ever suspected - they were like those of a spurned lover."
"Johnâs wounded anger was more that of an ex-spouse than ex-colleague, reinforcing a suspicion already in Yokoâs mind that his feelings for Paul had been far more intense than the world at large ever guessed."
"Around apple, Paul would sometimes be called John's princess. Yoko had also once heard a rehearsal tape with Johnâs voice calling out âPaul⊠Paul âŠâ in a strangely subservient, pleading way."
"Paul already knew John Lennon by sight [...] This Ted would get on the bus,' Paul was later to remember. 'I wouldn't stare at him too hard in case he hit me.' But now [at the church fete] at last Paul could inspect the tough guy of the 86 bus at leisure without fear of reprisals."
Lesley Ann Jones:
"He needed John. He couldn't have John. Who or what would be his Lennon replacement therapy? Who might he turn to who would be able to anticipate his reactions, read his mind, hear his heart and respond appropriately? [...] To John's side he was glued for, we might as well say it, eternity. [...] Still crushed by the Beatles' break-up but flaunting his best brave face, he was determined to consign his addiction to John to the past and to find himself another collaborator."
'I'm Carrying': the most memorable cut on the whole thing. 'By dawn's first light I'll come back to your room again'⊠what an opener that is. What a promise. No, Paul said, he didn't write it for Linda. He is supposed to have composed it about a lover from a different life. Jane Asher? Did he still think about her? [...] Accompanying himself on an acoustic guitar, Paul's wistful vocal wavers to a backdrop of agonising strings. Jane, you say? Listen again. I'm not there with them on that. That's not his once-upon-a-fiancée fading behind the plaintive chords. I'd say that's John."
"Paul knows that things would be different if John were still here. Having to live with the loss of his two most significant others has kept him humble. But he can still make a room, a venue, a global audience believe that he is divine. Was the real Paul there in his eyes that day? Did I see all the way back to the motherless boy who wrote, sang and played himself out of misery, who loved and lost and loved and lost, who is happily married again, who worships the ground his children and grand-children walk on, who makes music with anyone he likes, but who will mourn Lin and John to his dying day?"
"John suddenly became unavailable to Paul and Linda, fobbing them off with 'go away and grow up' rants even though he had welcomed them with open arms and enjoyed nights of fun with them when they'd visited previously - whilst also reaching out to Paul in simple, plaintive songs on home-recorded cassettes that would not get through to his boyhood best friend until it was too late."
Ray Connolly
"My role as a journalist was to cover the final act of the Beatles' career, and to observe the fall-out, largely, though by no means totally, with John and Paul. There were some bizarre and revealing moments during those days."
"These two broke up. And it took Paul a long time to get over it. John too, but he was just too macho to show it. But they had a marriage before Yoko arrived, although they both had girlfriends before."
"More important to Paul than his relationship with Jane, was his partnership with John Lennon [...] The friendship had intensified with a shared sense of loss. And so it was to remain as adulthood and fame arrived, and the girls came and went. And, in Johnâs case, a wife as well. [...] Exactly a year after their first encounter, Paul met Linda again when he contacted her while he and John were on business in New York. A few weeks later Paul called and invited Linda to join him at another business meeting in Los Angeles. Slowly but surely, they were coming together, just as certainly as John and Paul were breaking apart. John had fallen in love with Yoko Ono. Losing interest in the Beatles, John had less time for Paul. Yoko's presence put Paul off and John didnât care. Paul was finding himself abandoned. Outwardly super-confident, inwardly he was growing increasingly insecure. There were girls all around him, of course. He couldnât get rid of some of them, but he needed someone special at his side. He sent for Linda. [...] Catching Paul at the Beatlesâ Apple headquarters in Savile Row, he told me they wanted a quiet wedding. A quiet wedding for a Beatle in the centre of London in 1969 was impossible. Eight days later John and Yoko married in secret in Gibraltar. [...] Paul had always played on stage with his best friend. He couldnât play with John anymore, so he turned his new best friend, Linda, into a keyboard musician in his new group, Wings."
"While Jane Asher was the sort of girl to get on with her own career and leave Paul and John to sort out their differences, Linda brought her own little army in the shape of the Eastman family: her father Lee, an agent and music publisher in New York, and her brother John, a lawyer. John had found a new companion, abandoning Paul, at least in spirit. Paul had now found himself a ready-made family. No wonder the sessions were miserable."
Bob Spitz
(I already posted this one before but I feel I should add it, a long with a few new quotes)
"They fell in love. Iâm convinced. They looked at each other and they went like, âthis is it for meâ. Very platonic...but...They got married when they were in their teens and they got divorced when they were 29 and 30. There you have it."
"John saw right off that the boy had talent, not to mention plenty of nerve. He came on so loose and confident, without any inhibitions; John couldnât take his eyes off him."
"Their interest in each other was deep, complicated, and strongâa magnetic pull. There was something they recognized in each other, but it also repelled them, perhaps because it struck too close to home. Neither boy knew exactly what it was, but they could feel it. Instead of becoming instant friends, they played it cool, acting polite toward each other, interested but not too interested."
"John was haunted by Paul McCartneyâs display of skill, the way he had handled the guitar so smoothly and with such panache, the way heâd sung all the correct words to the rock ân roll songs. And John thought Paul looked a little like Elvis. âI dug him.â
"There was also something unique about Paul, something John couldnât quite put his finger on, that intensified his interest. Hooking up with someone like that was too exciting to pass up. John sensed he was on the verge of something important. Sure, they could make some music together and have a little fun, but there was something else, something indescribable that intrigued him. Whatever it was would become apparent in time."
"School proved a nagging obstacle for John and Paul, the occasional stolen afternoons unsatisfying, hardly time enough to get something going before Jim arrived home from work. Weekends were reserved primarily for the band. It wasn't so much that they needed time to write as much as it was each other's company. "Something special was growing between them," says Colin Hanton, "something that went past friendship as we knew it."
âThe last week in August, Paul McCartney returned to Liverpool, tanned and noticeably slimmer. In addition to starting school, he came back to begin a relationship he seemed destined for: hooking up with John Lennon."
"John hooked right in and fed off the energy. John and Paul had remarkably similar tastes [in music]; they liked it fast, hard, and loose."
"Their interest in each other was deeper and more complex than it appeared to anyone watching the encounter. There was instant recognition, a chemical connection made between the two boys [...] For all the circling, posturing, and checking out that went on, what it all came down to was love at first sight.â
âPaul loved working with John. At the beginning it was like sexâthey popped them off, one after another.â
"At first Paul held out hope that the separation was temporary, admitting that ânobodyââespecially himselfââquite knew if it was just one of Johnâs little flings and that maybe he was going to feel the pinch in a weekâs time and say, âI was only kidding.ââ But as the weeks, then months, ticked away, Paul finally realized it wasnât a joke. Convinced that John was now abandoning him, increasingly jealous of his relationship with Yokoâand Allen KleinâPaul atoned for the loss with anger. He was angry at the Beatles, but even angrier at John. It took another six months for him to admit the extent of his heartbreak. "John is in love with Yoko", he told the Evening Standard, "and heâs no longer in love with the other three of us.â But for all intents and purposes, he might as well have been talking about himself."
"Not only had they played music together, they'd hung out together, dreamed together, fucked together, become famous together."
Others:
"No matter how much he loved Yoko, the Gibraltar ceremony seems like something close to an on-the-rebound reaction to the loss of his first great love, Paul McCartney." -Chris Salewicz
"Almost in each otherâs face, John and Paul quickly gained an unusual closeness, little or nothing hidden. Paul noticed that âJohn had beautiful hands." -Mark Lewisohn
"With Yoko present, Paul McCartneyâs reign as Lennonâs princess was doomed.â -Peter McCabe
"'I thought Paul's was rubbish,' opined Lennon, saying that he preferred George's All Things Must Pass. McCartney studied the article with the morbid fascination of a jilted lover receiving a kiss-off letter."-Howard Sounes
"Pauline speculates, sensationally, that John and her brother had a homosexual relationship. âI have known in my heart for many years that Stuart and John had a sexual relationship,â she writes. Pauline wonders whether this ârelationshipâ was the real cause of the antagonism between Paul and Stu."-Howard Sounes
"Theirs was a volatile relationship right up to the end, and was fraught with emotional summits and valleys. While the connection between them was strictly heterosexual, it was deep, passionate, and highly explosive." -Geoffrey Giuliano
"John was insecure, and when he saw Paul he wanted to look cool. He gave up all his friends for Paul. Aunt Mimi recalled that John jumped around the kitchen when he told her about his new friend. She sarcastically said to John that they were like âchalk and cheeseâ meaning how different they were. And John would start hurling himself around the room shouting âChalk and Cheese!'â smiling and laughing. He was fucking in love with him, he adored him. She understood he found the partner of his life." -Thomas Rhodes

Ron Kamonohashi's Forbidden Deductions Episode 17 Review - Beach Date With Mofu
The end of a case means the start of a new one! Why is it that whenever Ron and Toto try to go somewhere, whether it be a date or for work, murder mysteries just have to cockblock or even be a third wheel? I know itâs the premise of the story, but canât these two have some fun without someone dying? It makes them look like a misfortune magnet.

She felt a hand on the back of her head and one placed on her chest. âHmm?â Is someone there she wanted to say, but her mouth felt like cotton; she couldnât speak at all.

~Please come back to me. To us. We still need you, our dearest.~
iâm way behind compared to all of yâall, but iâm finally here with a quarter 3 update and plot call! as always, iâll list out what all my girls will be up to for the quarter so feel free to either like this or just hit me up yourself if youâd like to do anything with them! though, once again, iâm uber slow these days so sorry in advance for my slow replies!
JAEIN
dimensions artists: might be a good time for anybody who wants to do a first time meeting perhaps at the shoot! jaeinâs overall mood for this company shoot is that itâs really stupid
volunteer work: will most likely be sent to the orphanage. she was trained for this moment by raising her three younger siblings basically, and sheâs naturally super good with kids. thread ideas include your muse perhaps being impressed that sheâs good at handling them? or maybe youâre both stuck playing house with one kid, and jaeinâs like i guess iâm your wife for the hour idk iâm half asleep right now typing this up
lucid members: open to any kind of schedule thread since theyâre in the midst of promotions for love whisper and will be preparing for summer rain. jaein likes easy listening so she actually doesnât dislike love whisper nor summer rain as songs; she just also understands the comments about how it sounds like lucidâs normal realm songs are blending together. as always, sheâs a tired Mom as the leader
will be promoting a single starting august 10th for two weeks so anybody whoâs overlapping in promotions then, iâm open to threads! jaein really enjoys island as a song so she may be happier during these solo promotions. of course, that doesnât mean she thinks sheâs good solo material so sheâs forever questioning dimensionsâ decision on pushing her as some solo artist since she always flopsÂ
quarter three is just a continuation of quarter two for jaein. sheâs simply Tired and exhausted both physically and emotionally so sheâs probably not the best person to interact with if you want a happy happy thread
HYEJU
bc artists: hyeju probably gets warned not to be so straightforward during the filming of the documentary, but everybody knows what kind of character sheâs like so she doesnât even bother. anyway, thereâs also the family concert and sheâs not happy about performing those specific lip gloss songs lmao i mean lipstick is alright but she dislikes catallena with a passion
volunteer work: will most likely participate at the animal shelter since sheâs a dog owner herself. if you didnât know because i never talk about him, she owns a japanese spitz named romeo!
lipstick members: hurt lockerâs a better song than news and ticket for hyeju so sheâs a little happier with this comeback. likes her parts a little more too. generally always in the same mood during promos though which is i canât believe bc is so cheapÂ
personally, she has a solo album coming up in november, but i have plans that sheâll receive news of it around this time in july, and sheâll start receiving demos and things. itâs a full album which makes the long preparation period make a lot of sense. it was claimed a while ago, but if your muse writes music perhaps she gets one of your songs and you get to discuss it? wonât make it on the final album of course, but itâs a chance to have your muse meet hyeju for the first time if weâve never discussed anything beforehand!
she also has some performances throughout the quarter as lipstick always does, and if your muse shows up in any one of those, feel free to have them start a convo with hyeju! sheâs my chillest muse which means sheâs usually a good one to have first time convos with
SUJI
volunteer work: will be delivering meals! lines up with her friendly, everybody sort of loves her image that gold star likes building up for her, and sheâs good with adults soÂ
fuse members: i think all of fuse is just collectively complaining about hands up at this point lol but yeah suji doesnât think itâs the right comeback track after something like psycho, and the amount of lines she has is kind of insane yikes. anyway iâm always open to threading with you all <3
personally she just finished up fine promotions and they were very very successful! i screenshotted the current chart because i think thatâs the highest any of her albums have charted yeehaw, and sheâs really proud of that work. it also prompts gold star to get her another single out before the end of the year, and so sheâs back to writing! will most likely edit the tens of drafts she has rather than writing something from scratch because thatâs how she works. this just means that other than hands up promotions, sheâll be pretty easy to call up and just hang out with? if anybody wants to discuss music with her, sheâs all yourâs! sheâs very interested in varying her discography and stepping away from traditional ballads for a while tbh
oh, sheâs also in the seoul group for base if thatâs something anybody will be interested in!!
YUJIN
honestly, iâve had a lost of yujin since the end of last year, and iâm barely hanging on here so if iâm not uber excited to plot out yujin, i hope youâre all understanding. though i do think she has some interesting points throughout this quarter especially since marigoldâs debut is coming up in the next quarter!!
volunteer work: havenât decided, but i think yujinâs the one that gold star will send to do as many volunteer work as she can so sheâs open for pretty much everything!!
sheâs slightly gotten over elementâs disbandment. actually, no, she hasnât, but she has to so sheâs just grinding her teeth as she prepares for a second debut because itâs still a debut nevertheless, and she wants to stand on stage. gold star is being generous enough to not push her out into another acting project as she prepares for a debut though they did grab her that ably deal not too long ago! will most likely just throw her in another brand deal as gold star wants to keep her as relevant as possible post-producers fame so if you want a duo brand ambassador thing with yujin, iâm all ears!!
