Did Saddam Hussein Launch a Nuclear Attack on Israel?
Back in the first Gulf War, Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein attacked Iran, resulting in thirty-four countries entering an alliance against him. Hussein’s response? Threatening to start a war with Israel if anyone attacked Iraq.
Rather than striking Iraq in defense, the Israeli government issued gas masks to all citizens and instructed them to keep them on hand at all times in case of chemical attack.
When the US-led coalition attacked Iraq in 1991, Iraqi missiles rained down on Israel. While the Israeli death toll was low during the second Gulf War, the experience had a lasting impact on the country. The weaknesses that had been revealed during the experience inspired the invention of the Iron Dome, the installation of bomb shelters in all new homes and a massive overhaul of Israeli security.
Wrapped this guy up the other day. It’s 10x20 acrylic on canvas. Someone asked me if I was going to make skeleton peeps from other conflicts, and I decided to give desert storm a wack. You can check out the full res on my site, or grab it there if you want it. Also I’m open for commissions, so DM me if you want me to paint you something. Have a good one. #neon #purple #skeleton #military #army #marines #navy #airforce #retro #skull #desertstorm #gulfwar #iraq #kuwait https://www.instagram.com/p/CThszM2rkiO/?utm_medium=tumblr
Stormin' Norman, at a 1991 Operation Desert Storm briefing with the press rocking a Seiko 7548 Pepsi quartz diver (literally right next to a can of...Diet Pepsi 😂) U.S. General Norman Schwarzkopf certainly didn't wear a military watch - on either wrist. While Commander of Operation Desert Storm, Schwarzkopf was wearing a Seiko 7548 when he led – at the time – the strongest combined military force the world had ever witnessed to evict Iraqi forces from Kuwait in 1991. It's somewhat amusing that rather than wear a single watch with two timezones, Schwarzkopf wore two watches, one on each wrist, and both were quite civilian. Fast forward to 1999, which witnessed Schwarzkopf’s 7548 garner an impressive $11,000 at charity auction, where it was auctioned under the title "Seiko Desert Storm.” The general noted, in a letter when he donated his watch to the Antiquorum auction house, "I always wore two watches during the [Gulf] war. The one on my left arm was set on Saudi Arabian time and the Seiko on my right arm was set on Eastern Standard Time. That way I could quickly glance at my watches and instantly know the time in both Saudi Arabia and Washington, D.C.” www.dcvintagewatches.com @dcvintagewatches #womw #watchesofinstagram #watchfam #wristgame #watchoftheday #DC #LA #SoCal #redbarcrew #DCVW #wis #edc #instawatch #fratellowatches #operationdesertstorm #gulfwar#wornandwound #wotd #klocksnack #GoAnalog #seiko #vintageseiko #Japan #seikoholic #seikoaddict #watchesforsale #forsale #seiko7548 #omega #heuer https://www.instagram.com/p/CKHVAYGrDxx/?igshid=121h62yyyjbra
