Gull Rock lighthouse Michigan
Lake Superior
Egg Rock Light, Frenchman Bay, Winter Harbor, Maine. Until the lighthouse was built in 1875, Egg Rock was known for its massive amount of sea bird nests. Today ownership belongs to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and is managed as part of the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge. If you're boating about the Bar Harbor area, be sure to be on the look out for the numerous harbor seals and black guillemots that are usually loitering around the lighthouse today.

Gull Rock Light Station
The Gull Rock Light is an active lighthouse off the Keweenaw Peninsula in upper Michigan.
Built in 1867, the light was installed to help guide ships passing by Gull Rock, an small island described as "the peak of an underwater mountain."
It was first automated in 1913 and, as mentioned previously, is still active today on the shores of Lake Superior. Despite being a popular spot for both private photographers and lighthouse cruises, the light has seen few repairs other than for its continued use. Due to the risk of the Light's loss because of erosion, it has even been placed on the Lighthouse Digest Doomsday List.
I originally was doing this one because it seemed to be physically similar to my previous Grand Island East Channel Light build. I wasn't expecting to find out that it was still active today, nor that it would be at such risk. An interesting lighthouse to be sure.

Maslins and Blanche Point to Port Willunga…a rewarding short walk
Dear Reader: It is glorious summer’s day, not too hot and a gentle sea breeze. The view from the clifftop is spectacular. The outline of Gull Rock and surrounding shallow reefs are clear cut against an impossibly blue ocean. Inland, the view is quite a contrast with farmland, scrub and distant, low hills reflecting the dry shades of an Australian summer. Gull Rock from the clifftop Farmland,…

07/04/19 - Otter Rock, OR - CENTERED ROCKS - It wasn’t intentional, but I like the way the little rock in the foreground is centered with Gull Rock in the background with the lush green of the Marine Gardens and the dark blue of the ocean in the middleground. I can see why this area is a mecca for artists. It’s a different painting everyday around here. By that I mean you can take a picture from the very same place everyday and get something completely different each time depending upon weather conditions, tides and time of day. It’s amazing eye candy that never gets boring. Do you feel me?
