I love looking at the news feed and getting the the "US News" portion. Because today it's just
Shooting at Philadelphia graduation
Iowa family shot to death
Police threaten to shoot black family
And black Boeing employee found noose over desk, urine on workspace, and expirenced the N word on a daily basis from co workers (good news is hes sueing because no one was helping at his job)
Something about the fact that my baby sister is 15 years old, older than most of the victims from Parkland, really kills me. I keep fearing for her life, scared about how earlier in the year someone who said he wanted to shoot up the school, someone who raped and abused multiple highschool girls, was given a bodygaurd because students took it in their own hand to beat him up because the administration did NOTHING.
I have said for a while now that I would take a bullet for my students. Why is that something I have to think of. I started working with children for pay when I was 16 years old. A 16 year old shouldn't have to think about getting gunned down to protect children. No one should! 14 is too young. 15 is too young. 16 is too young. 20 is too young.
We shouldn't have to fear for our lives. Why is it so hard to get people to feel to feel empathy for these kids? Children's lives ARE more important than your right to bear arm. Children's live are more important than most things. No one batted an eye when we banned kinder eggs or lead paint, but now that your useless toys with no purpose but to kill human people, are on the line suddenly children aren't worth it????
I dare anyone who thinks that to go to the 17 fucking funerals happening this week and tell that to the parents who are burying their children, their siblings, open their fucking caskets and tell that to their face.
Your priorities disgust me.
Kids Shooting Each Other Over Nothing
Me and my wife were in bed early Friday Night when we heard the shots. I don’t know a lot about guns, but I know the sound of a magazine emptying. Soon, we heard sirens and then we heard people gathering and talking in the parking area. The Apartment Manager knows everything that goes on in the complex and town. I asked her what happened. Some teenagers got into a beef at the fast food place next…

On Oct. 27, Native artist and activist Jacob Johns posted an update to his social media about his recovery after being shot in the chest at a rally last month in New Mexico, but his recovery may create some challenges.
Within less than a month, Johns is supposed to be the lead organizer of a delegation that is going to Dubai for the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28). However, given the state of his injuries and recovery, Ferguson said that they are not sure if he will be able to travel.

Within the first hour of 2023 (EST), there were 9 confirmed shootings in the United States, including two mass shootings in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Mobile, Alabama..
How to Get Your Parents on Board with You Participating in a #NeverAgain Walkout
While it’s great to see that colleges all over the country are saying they’ll ignore any disciplinary actions as a result of walkouts, there’s still a secondary obstacle for a lot of people: parents.
Hopefully some of you have parents who understand why this is necessary and why you feel called to participate, but I have to imagine there are a lot of parents who will say some variation of “you just want to take the day off school” and won’t believe you when you deny it and doing it without parental approval might make your life unnecessarily harder. If that’s the case, then here’s a great defense:
Do something productive with that day.
I know the walkout is calling for going to school and then walking out at 10, so that leaves a lot of hours where you normally would’ve been in school.
Volunteer at a local homeless shelter, soup kitchen, hospital, etc
Plan and execute a fundraiser and donate proceeds to gun violence victims & families or an anti-gun lobby organization
Search your local government and see if they are meeting that day and if it’s open to the public
Spend some time calling congress and asking them to support gun control
Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper with your opinion on gun control
Sign petitions, tweet your reps, and ensure gun control doesn’t get pushed aside for other issues
By planning one or more of these activities in advance, you can demonstrate to your parents that you’re not just joining the movement to take the day off school so you can hang with your friends or laze around on the couch. You show them that you’ll be doing something just as (if not more) worthwhile than going to school that day, which I know would’ve held a lot of merit with my parents when I was in high school.
To be most effective, I recommend proactively going to your parents (before they can hear about it and possibly forbid you from joining the walkout) and calmly telling them why you want to join the walkout, explaining how important it is to you, and then outlining a plan of what productive things you’ll be doing that day instead. You can even write out notes on talking points if you want to, as it will show them you’re serious and make sure you make rational points rather than incoherent emotional pleas.
Obviously this isn’t going to work with all parents. Some may have opposing views on gun control, some may be extremely strict about school attendance, and some may threaten additional consequences if you do participate. At that point, it’s up to each of you to decide whether or not to participate against your parents’ wishes. However, for those of you whose parents don’t really “get” it, but who can be reasonable when presented with a rational argument, then hopefully this helps!
