These are slender cockscombs, Anoplarchus insignis, the only ones we caught all summer. They’re named for their rooster comb looking dorsal fins. I like the stripes on their faces and the way they hold their pectoral fins like little arms.

This lil bitch is a crescent gunnel, Pholis laeta, in a really nice deep red. They’re named for the light crescent shapes along their dorsal fins. Usually they’re more shit stain green. I don’t have any pictures of them because we tend to catch a lot. We hate on them because, as you can sort of tell from the second picture, they move around like crazy, and this makes measuring them very hard. They have no scales, so they just slip right out of your hands. The threats they have received include, but are not limited to:

“I’m gonna take your fuckin’ eyes out”

“I’m gonna eat you with beans”

“Die, bitch”

They are kind of cute though.
