Guruyoga and Therapy
The mechanisms that allow for anything to become therapeutic in a course of psychotherapy, are the same that allow for anything to become a teaching within the context of guruyoga. In other words, attention itself sanctifies and transforms. There are no awakened gurus (or therapists for that matter) running around out there doing nothing but awakened pastimes, all worthy of being understood as conscious teaching. Rather, there are moments of mutual beholding that clearly display our minds’ capacities for transformational interpretation, which provides the grace necessary to be human in both religious and psychotherapeutic contexts.
