Happy Thorsday - Aurboda
Well here we are another Thor’s Day and another 20 min sketch of a Norse (and Germanic, sometimes Celtic) mythological character. This week it’s Aurboda, meaning either ‘gravel builder’, or ‘gravel offer-er’, or just as likely given her role in gardening,’gold mud’. One of Menglod’s (Mengloth) Maids of Gastropnir the Healing Mountain, and her apothecary, and herb deliverer. She would deliver medication and advise on medication those who called on her and especially hose that sacrificed to her. Some say she would take medicine to people in the form of a giant raven. A Jotun (Female Jotnar/Jotun/Giant/Giantess) of the mountains. Wife of the Giant Gymir at their hall surrounded by fire, and mother of Beli (Who had some issues with his sisters marriage, and he and Freyr kill each other at Ragnarok), and Gerdr/Gerd who will marry Freyr. Once married and her daughter wed, she would take to also being Freya/Freyja’s messenger for healing herbs and medicines.
She and Gymir are a gardening powerhouse both having serious green thumbs.
