h+: Cybernetic Daily Life Released
h+: Cybernetic Daily Life is now available on Amazon Kindle! It can be read as part of the Kindle Unlimited program or bought for $2.99 (or the local equivalent). The book can be found here: Amazon US
It is 2020. Consumer cyber-augmentation is nearing reality, with the leading Japanese engineers looking for test subjects before entering the market. Hatsu Kamiya was disabled in a tragic accident as a child, and lost most of the use of her limbs in the aftermath. Given the opportunity to be a test subject for the prototype cyberlimbs for free, she readily accepts a new chance at having a normal life. But while her new limbs grant her the freedom she missed, she now must face the trials of one who redefines what is human.
If you’re on the fence, remember that Amazon shows previews for the first 10% of ebooks on their site.
I hope people enjoy the story!
I think h+’s revisions might be nearly complete. Unless I find any last-minute issues, it might be pretty much ready for its final release.
To prepare for the Kindle release, all but the first two chapters have been taken down from Wattpad. (The two that remain will serve a similar role to the Kindle preview of the first 10% of the story.) When the story is out on Amazon, I might add a chapter/note to the Wattpad version to explain the move to Kindle, for those who haven’t heard already.
I hope people are excited for the release of h+! It’s been almost a year since the first few chapters were published on Wattpad, but we’re almost at the full release now.
The Fall story arc of h+ has begun! Chapter 11 is available today, and Chapters 12-15 will be released over the coming days/weeks.
h+: Cybernetic Daily Life is available to read on Wattpad.
Now that all of my currently released stories have proper covers, I thought it might be time to show them off. Some more details on the stories shown and where to find them:
Shireishi A mysterious phone application claims to put its users in contact with a ghost, causing mayhem through its influence. An anthology of connected horror/mystery stories. Available on Amazon for $2.99.
h+: Cybernetic Daily Life A partially paralyzed teenage girl is given a chance to have a normal life again thanks to technology, but must deal with discrimination because of it as well. A sci-fi/slice of life novella. Chapters 1-10 are currently available on Wattpad.
The Decision A teenage girl is trying to make her dream romance a reality, but she has doubts that she's sincere in her feelings. A romantic drama short story. Sidestory to Shireishi. Currently available on Wattpad.
Family A mother, her adopted daughter, and the daughter's girlfriend try to sort out their relationships with each other before the girls go to college. A romantic drama short story. Currently available on Wattpad.
Transhumanism Updates
Some cool things to think about this April concerning transhumanism:
The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy has a new article on “Human Enhancement” (specifically, it deals with the somewhat commonplace debate on the ethics of human enhancement in various ways, and goes over some painfully contentious topics). I plan on reading some of it today and sharing my thoughts on it, and I’d love to hear from others who are doing the same!
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided was recently and officially announced! The series has dealt with the ethics, politics, and social culture of transhumanism and augmentation in the past and will continue to do so from the perspective of augmented superhottie Adam Jensen. You can check out what some of the team executives have to say about creating the futuristic world in which Deus Ex takes place.
The first major US transhumanist conference of the year happened only last week, featuring British philosopher Riva-Melissa Tez and Russian scientist Maria Konovalenko among other notable speakers. The conference primarily addressed how we can pragmatically approach transhumanist goals within the next few years and how we can prioritize these goals in the mainstream political and social environment.
Catholics continue to fumble with the idea that humans don’t have to have short, brutish lives in order to atone for natural sins; claim that being transhumanist “diminishes human dignity” while diminishing and reducing all of transhumanism to the longevity concept.
(Self-promotion) I’ve got a brand new pro-transhumanist design up in my shop, and new materials available for an older design that’s already had some happy customers:
